Star Captain Kym Nostra was a Spirit Cats and Clan Nova Cat MechWarrior, as well as Bloodnamed warrior of the Nostra Bloodhouse, during the Dark Age Era.[1][2]

Spirit Cats[edit]
During her time with the Spirit Cats, Kym was a solid, dependable MechWarrior, but from a Clan perspective considered a failure. She was not a ristar, and was considered to be destined to become solahma without winning a Bloodname, a fate that haunted Kym as she grew older.
Defeating just a single opponent during her initial Trial of Position, she had risen only to Star Captain and was placed in charge of a scout Trinary in the Spirit Cat's green Omicron Cluster. Her disdain for brash and dangerous tactics resulted in a number of Trials of Grievance against her fellow officers, though she won these without exception.[3][1]
Despite her disputes with other Clan members and her lack of flair or a desire for personal glory, she still inspired deep loyalty in her subordinates. This loyalty often protected her when her tactics failed, with her troops selling their lives dearly to enable her unit to retreat safely.[1]
Clan Nova Cat[edit]
Kym eventually returned to Clan Nova Cat, where her steady performance was finally recognized by her superiors. There, she was given the opportunity to contest a Trial of Bloodright for a Nostra Bloodname, during which she was able to bait her opponents into overextending themselves, securing a surprising victory. Having subverted her expected destiny, she exchanged the name Kym Nova Cat for Kym Nostra.[2]
Tactics[edit]
Kym had a methodical, almost cautious, but competent approach to combat. These tactics did not bring the honor associated with the bolder and brasher tactics revered in Clan society, but otherwise generated good results.[1]
Philosophical and/or political views[edit]
Kym was, even amongst the relative pragmatic Omicron Cluster, one of the least spiritual Spirit Cats.[1] Her lack of recognition while with the Spirit Cats resulted in the Draconis Combine considering recruiting her, but they ultimately decided against it, assessing that she had simply accepted her lowly place and duty.[3]
BattleMech[edit]
Kym is known to have initially piloted a Cougar OmniMech named Lucky Eight. This 'Mech, serial number WC132-22B, previously served with Khan Phelan Kell's Clan Wolf-in-Exile during the Word of Blake Jihad. At the liberation of Donegal during the Jihad, its pilot was credited with 5 Blakist kills and 6 assists including a 100 ton Vanquisher, before being felled. After being salvaged, it was donated with a number of other recovered 'Mechs to the newly established Republic of the Sphere.
Kym's name for the 'Mech therefore reflected both the old myth that cats have 9 lives, and that this 'Mech had already lost one of its lives on Donegal.[1]
Following her return to Clan Nova Cat, and winning the Nostra Bloodname, she was awarded a new WNO-VP-M Wendigo OmniMech. She named this 'Mech All Nine, to reflect the fact it was brand-new, and had therefore not yet lost any of its 9 lives.[2]
