Planetary History[edit]
Reunification War[edit]
By the late twenty-sixth century, Landmark was one of the most heavily populated Taurian Concordat worlds outside of the Hyades Cluster and had a very strong agricultural industry, supplying the Hyades with its crops.[51]
During the Reunification War, the Star League Defense Force's XI Corps was responsible for the conquest of Landmark in 2587. Their WarShips and fighters razed its cities while a genetically engineered bioagent was used in the agrarian areas. Millions starved and died, including heavy SLDF casualties from the use of Taurian nuclear and chemical attacks, but the world was subjugated by the middle of October. However, the biggest tragedy was an unforeseen interaction the bioagent had with the environment which caused a delayed supervirus mutation that expanded into an epidemic two years later and required the world to be quarantined for three years until a vaccine was developed, killing tens of millions more.[51]
Third Succession War[edit]
The Landmark, Brisbane, and New Vandenburg systems were attacked by a pirate band known as Hawke's Horde in 3012. In 3013, the pirates attacked Landmark again, but this time they were engaged by elements of the Landmark Militia. They were able to escape off world with minimal losses while destroying nine militia vehicles and killing forty three infantrymen.[52][53]
In late 3047, a Federated Commonwealth-registered JumpShip misjumped into the Landmark system, where it was destroyed by nervous Taurian Defense Force pilots in the belief that it might have been conducting a spying mission. Protector Thomas Calderon responded to the incident by placing the TDF on high alert, convinced that it was the beginning of a long-anticipated invasion of the Concordat by the Commonwealth.[54]
