Description[edit]
The Leviathan III has the unique status of being the only known "new" Inner Sphere–based WarShip class to be constructed since the mid-to-late-thirty-first century. The Leviathan III-class Heavy Battleship is a large WarShip design built by Clan Ghost Bear during the late Dark Age era. Begun in the 3130s in secret after the events of Gray Monday, the ship was built using the lessons learned from the violent battles of the Jihad: namely that WarShips are expensive and must be protected from concentrated smaller craft. Like previous Leviathan-class ships, the Leviathan III still carries incredibly heavy armor and weaponry.
Constructed at the shipyards orbiting Alshain, the ship is designed with space superiority in mind, with an increased number of docking hardpoints in comparison to past Leviathan designs. This both protects the massive vessel from nuclear and other fighter attacks, shifts support of any fight contingent to the attached DropShips, and allows the Leviathan III to focus on orbital bombardment. It features a rare mobile HPG and carries a cluster of aerospace fighters for air support for a ground force as well as screening the ship from enemy spacecraft.[1]
The alleged operational status as of 3150 is uncertain due to the secrecy of the project. Republic of the Sphere military reports note that Clan Ghost Bear is working with the Raven Alliance in their efforts to build the ship and other assets to support it at Quatre Belle.[1]
Armament[edit]
The Leviathan III mounts both capital-grade and conventional weapons, allowing the vessel to destroy larger targets, but also defend itself from aerospace fighters. In comparison to past designs, the Leviathan III had its firepower refocused on longer-ranged capital weaponry. Sub-capital missiles in the form of Stingray missiles had been added, while the number of anti-missile system had been increased, with an addition of newer laser-based AMS as part of the lessons learned during the Jihad.[1]

Notes[edit]
- The record sheet for the Leviathan III-class heavy battleship was only released in Experimental Technical Readout: Republic, Volume 3.
- As of this writing, it is unclear what is the actual name of the Leviathan III, aside from its class variant name. Also, it is uncertain if more of this ship class has been produced beyond the reported first ship.
