Liko Shaiu was the commanding officer of the Second Battalion of the Third McCarron's Armored Cavalry Regiment during the Dark Age Era.[1]

During the 3144 invasion of Cumberland, Sao-shao Shaiu commanded the Capellan Confederation's screening force as they moved through the difficult terrain and harsh weather patterns of the Sarasota Flats. As his group neared the Flats, Shaiu detected a significant amount of electromagnetic interference and realized he could use the region's interference and high temperatures to hinder the Federated Suns defenders. Over the next four days, Shaiu used his force's mobility to launch multiple hit-and-run attacks against the FedSuns' heavier units, disabling three heavy BattleMechs and two assault BattleMechs in the process. Ultimately, Shaiu's efforts allowed the Capellans to bypass the Flats and capture two of the Davions' DropShips.[2][3]
Promoted to zhong-shao and command of the Third MAC's Second Battalion for his actions on Cumberland, Shaiu filled his new command company with fast 'Mechs and continued to pilot his light BattleMech despite the availability of heavier command machines.[1]
