History[edit]

The Lincoln's Rotting Corpse was a pirate band that operated in the anti-spinward area of the Free Worlds League. Their only communications came via messages displaying a grotesque, propped-up mummy while a voice-modulated individual made threats.[1]

During the 3080s, the band was the terror of Sackville. The pirates raided Sackville so frequently in 3082 that the government was left desperately calling for help while betting houses on the planet took bets on when the raiders would arrive again.[2]

The nearby Duchy of Tamarind declined to assist Sackville, feeling that the world had nothing to offer the Duchy. However, help came from an unexpected source, when Colonel Yoshio Kawamura led a combined-arms force from the First Marik Protectors - the former Tenth Marik Militia - to hunt the pirates. Accurately predicting a strike against the warehouses in the city of Tighfield, Kawamura established and executed a hugely successful ambush. Kawamura's tactics were so successful that many of the pirates were killed, the Protectors captured a Mule-class pirate DropShip, leading the other pirate DropShips to abandon those on the ground, and as the surviving pirates went to ground a grateful planetary government declared Kawamura an honorary citizen and paid the Protectors a hefty enough bonus for them to expand their ranks with a new company of hovertanks.[2]

Sometime after the incident on Sackville, the Lincoln's Rotting Corpse moved their base of operations to the abandoned system of Thirty Weight. There they operated in the vicinity of the Loyalty system for decades.[1]

In 3147, the unit raided the Wolf Empire controlled world of Laureles for something they claimed happened thirty years prior. They pillaged several towns for slaves and plunder while avoiding the defending 21st Wolf Garrison Cluster. Only one of the pirate's BattleMechs was downed during the raid, but the pilot was captured alive. The pilot, thinking he was going to be made a bondsman, freely gave the location of the pirate's base on Thirty Weight. Once Star Captain Seth confirmed the star system's location, he executed the prisoner and then bid for the right to lead an expedition to destroy the pirates. Upon assembling a force, Star Captain Seth left for Thirty Weight. Three months later, Seth returned with all the slaves the pirates had ever taken, several salvaged BattleMechs and the pirate's JumpShip. Seth confirmed the destruction of the pirate base on Thirty Weight and it is assumed the entire pirate band of Lincoln's Rotting Corpse.[1]
