Lionel Stanz was a former member of Steiner High Command who opposed the signing of the FedCom Accords.[1]

History[edit]

Once a respected member of Steiner High Command, Lionel Stanz was vehemently opposed to Steiner's alliance with House Davion and he resigned in frustration as his position became politically isolating. Those who knew him thought he quietly retired on Summer, where his family owned land in a remote area; instead, he found friends among the Skye Separatists on Muphrid and rallied the local militia under the guise of independence.[1][2]

In early 3028, Steiner intelligence learned that Lionel Stanz had stolen a Peacemaker nuclear device and was threatening to cleanse the Skye Province of foreigners, of which Muphrid had heavy immigrant populations from the Federated Suns and Draconis Combine. Because Stanz still had supporters inside Lyran command, a mercenary unit was contracted to intervene. They destroyed two relay stations and the remote detonator to prevent Stanz from launching the nuke, but he was able to escape off-world with it.[1]

When Stanz addressed everyone and threatened to manually detonate the device at his first opportunity, Steiner issued a call to arms and mobilized the Fifth Lyran Guards, wanting to prevent a potential national embarrassment. Loki agents tracked Stanz's JumpShip to Summer, where Steiner forces fought against Stanz's defenses to a standstill. The mercenary unit then arrived and dropped into the warzone and together they were able to break the siege, capturing the warhead and killing Stanz in the process.[1]
