Planetary History[edit]
Lockdale was a planet within the Terran Hegemony and the capital of the Lockdale Province during the Star League era.[2] It was a heavily industrialized world and an important communications and trade hub as well. By 2766, the Star League had made Lockdale one of the most fortified worlds in all the Hegemony with five Castles Brian and a Space Defense System.[6]
The Star League Defense Force operation to retake Lockdale as part of Operation CHIEFTAIN began on 11 September 2775. The Fourth Fleet under the command of Admiral Marina Akkayev-Cameron paved the way by taking out the SDS's drone fleet, but not without losses of approximately two dozen WarShips and many more heavily damaged.[6] Afterward, the Third Army under the command of General Jack Lucas landed on 25 September to engage the Amaris troops, which at that point had withdrawn entirely into the Castles Brian and the cities, where they intended to use the planet's populace as shields.[6]
The SLDF was able to drive the Amaris forces out of the main cities by February 2776 but not before the defenders had detonated nuclear devices in Cranford, Crimson Springs, and Firebick in an attempt to kill as many SLDF soldiers as possible. It would take another year before Lockdale was secured, during which time Amaris' operatives released biological and chemical agents that poisoned the water and land alike. The SLDF army had protective gear but the civilian population did not, resulting in Lockdale's rapid decline as a viable world.[6]
By 2797, Lockdale was considered a dead or dying world.[8]
