Description[edit]

Developed prior to Gray Monday, the Loki Mk II is a Heavy Class OmniMech which was originally created for the touman of Clan Jade Falcon. Also known as Hel internally among the Clans, the Loki Mk II is an upgraded version of the venerable Hellbringer developed by Clan Hell's Horses in 2926.[4][5] The new 'Mech differs from its thirtieth century originator by having heavier equipment capacity and improved armor protection but a lower top speed.

The 'Mech would become primarily used by Clans Jade Falcon and Hell's Horses in 3145, where the 'Mech would see action during those Clans' invasions of the Inner Sphere powers such as the Republic of the Sphere and Lyran Commonwealth. A noted action that utilized the Loki Mk II was during the Jade Falcons' occupation of Sargasso in 3142. The Ninth Talon deployed a Binary of Loki Mk IIs to suppress resistance in the city of Salicastrum. The Cluster's Loki Mk IIs (fitted with B Configurations) used their Long Tom Cannons to blast rebel forces. However, a Nova of Wolf-In-Exiles forces ambushed the Binary, and the ensuing battle rendered half the Jade Falcon Loki Mk IIs destroyed, however the survivors would withdraw temporarily. A Star's worth of survivors from the Ninth would return to force a Clan Wolf retreat and prevent the world from falling back into Commonwealth hands.[1]

Having gained more combat experience with the Loki Mk II, the Hell’s Horses and Jade Falcons have continued to roll out additional configurations. The Hell's Horses have been focusing on using the chassis to deliver long range firepower, while the Jade Falcons have been working to combat the unflattering “Slowki” nickname by improving its mobility.[6]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

The Loki Mk II is noted for having forty tons of pod space. This improvement was achieved through reducing the size of the 'Mech's engine to a 260-rated XL fusion engine, installing a Small Cockpit, and the use of ferro-fibrous armor.

The Prime Configuration of the Loki Mk II is geared towards long-range combat. The 'Mech's arms are fitted with a pair of Gauss rifles and ER Large Lasers. In closer ranges, MechWarriors have a right torso mounted 4-tubed Streak SRM Launcher to add additional firepower where the Gauss rifles become difficult to aim. The main guns are supplied with 3 tons of ammunition, while the Streak launcher is allotted a single ton. Two additional Double Heat Sinks are fitted to the Prime, to help it cope with the heat of the ER Larges.[1]

Alternate Configurations[edit]

  • Alternate Configuration A
Designed to handle armored infantry and combat vehicles, the A Configuration comes with a balance of energy and ballistic weaponry. Each of the Configuration's arms comes with an ER PPC and medium pulse laser, and two Double Heat Sinks. In the right torso are fitted two hard-hitting improved heavy medium lasers and a pair of AP Gauss rifles. The left side torso houses a single LB 10-X Class autocannon, 'Mech's 2 tons of ammunition for the AC, and the single ton of space for AP Gauss rifle ammo. An additional Double Heat Sink is found in the center torso and another in the head, along with an additional two in each arm. An Angel ECM is mounted in the right torso for added protection. BV(2.0)=2,249[7][8][9]
  • Alternate Configuration B
Geared for a fire support role, the B's heavy firepower focused in its Long Tom cannon and ER Large Laser, while four medium pulse lasers round out the 'Mech's defensive weaponry. The cannon's three tons of ammunition is found in the right torso with one of the 'Mech's three additional heat sinks. BV(2.0)=1,798[10][11][12]
  • Alternate Configuration C
A dedicated missile boat, the C configuration's only armament is four ATM 12 missile launchers. While they are fed by a bountiful ten tons of ammunition, once exhausted the pilot will be left defenceless, as the C lacks any backup weapons. BV(2.0)=2,214[6][13]
  • Alternate Configuration D
A manoeuvrable skirmisher, the D configuration can engage its enemies at any range. For long range there are a pair of LRM 15 launchers paired with an ER large laser, to deal direct damage. These are joined by a pair of plasma cannons to overheat 'Mechs and roast vehicles and infantry. At close range the Hel D has considerable bite with a pair of Improved Heavy Medium Lasers. With four tons of LRM ammunition, and three for the plasma cannons, the D can stay on the battlefield a long time. The greatest difference of this configuration is the addition of six improved jump jets, allowing leaps of up to 180 meters. BV(2.0)=2,370[6][14]
  • Alternate Configuration E
Equipped with an eclectic mix of weaponry suitable for all ranges akin to its predecessor, the E configuration's primary weapons are a pair of ER large lasers, backed up by a rotary AC/5. Closing in the pilot can call on three ER medium lasers, then finish off crippled foes with a pair of streak SRM-6 launchers. The pilot's accuracy is further boosted by the inclusion of a targeting computer. Care must be taken though, as this loadout can easily tax the design's 14 Double Heat Sinks. BV(2.0)=2,443[6][15]
  • Alternate Configuration F
Mimicking the 30 ton heavier Hellstar, the F configuration is armed with four ER PPCs for powerful, long range sniping. The remaining pod space is dedicated to cooling, with an additional 10 double heat sinks and six coolant pods to maximise the weapons' fire rate. BV(2.0)=2,512[6][16]
  • Alternate Configuration T
Reworking the Prime configuration, the T carries an ultra AC/10 and improved heavy medium laser in each arm, giving it devastating direct fire potential. To maximise this, the T is fitted with a targeting computer, while a supercharger allows the pilot to get into position faster. An SRM-4 in the right torso can be used to stab at exposed components. BV(2.0)=2,077[6][17]

Notes[edit]

  • Originally the Loki Mk II's alternate Clan name was simply Hellbringer Mk II, which was published in the first edition of the PDF as such. However, developer level errata was issued, changing the alternate Clan name to Hel. The name comes from Norse mythology, where the Poetic Edda, Prose Edda describes Hel as the daughter of Norse god Loki and she is the Queen of Hell.[18][19]
