For her fifteenth birthday, First Leutnant Gutsch was gifted with flight lessons and had logged over two thousand hours behind the controls of an aerospace craft by the time she turned eighteen. After graduating from the Melissa Steiner Martial Academy of Bolan in 3140, Gutsch was assigned to the Lyran Commonwealth's defense of the Westerstede system against Clan Jade Falcon. Even after suffering significant damage to her craft, Gutsch and her crew succeeded in destroying two Falcon vessels and assisted in the elimination of a third before being evacuated to Tharkad. While stationed in the Commonwealth's capital system, she served as an escort for the planet's defending Pocket WarShips.[1]
