Parent Command Clan Wolf touman

Lupus Galaxy was mustered by Clan Wolf during the dawn of the ilClan Era to protect and expand the Wolf Empire.[1]

History[edit]

Clan Wolf became the ilClan after winning the IlClan Trial, but claiming victory had required bringing virtually all of its touman to Terra and leaving the Wolf Empire practically defenseless. But its expected collapse was forestalled by Star Colonel Othar, the Empire's ranking officer. Othar took steps to bolster the Empire's defenses by lowering the age of graduation of all sibkos by a year, offering new opportunities to all solahma warriors in the Empire, and furnishing them with newly manufactured equipment. With these measures Othar raised two full Galaxies in less than a year: Lupus and Rufus.[2]

Lupus was to become the frontline Galaxy, first-responders to any crises that beset Rufus garrison units. The five Clusters of Lupus were posted to worlds one or two Jumps from their Rufus Galaxy counterparts. While Rufus units would pin an enemy in place, its paired Lupus Cluster would arrive to smash the enemy.[1] For this role, Lupus Clusters were assigned their own DropShips and JumpShips.[3]

Active by the end of 3151, Lupus' units saw heavy combat everywhere in the Empire, but they were greatly outnumbered and suffered heavy losses, being unable to prevent the loss of several worlds to the Free Worlds League, though their efforts prevented the total collapse of the Empire. The most damaging battle was the raid of Wolf's Dragoons Zeta Battalion on Gienah in 3152, which saw the Den Keshik and the Ninety-First Wolf Guards annihilated.[4]

Notes[edit]

There is a discrepancy about the number of Clusters in Lupus Galaxy, as it was said that there were only five, but six are mentioned, including the Den Keshik, though as the last unit was only a Trinary strong, it may be that Othar simply referred to five front-line Clusters plus the Keshik, which was a bodyguard-command unit.[7]
