The Lute Shrike was mentioned as an alien species on Shasta, implied to be a native avian. Although they never venture very deep into the rainforest (such as the Mesozonia rainforest natural preserve), it was suggested as the possible source for a sharply curled, blood red claw/hook that was found in the jungle. (The creature in question was later revealed to be a Jardinian Firecat, and not a Lute Shrike.)[1]
