Overview[edit]

Lyons hired two mercenary units in order to defend their new found defenses against inevitable Clan Jade Falcon aggression, Cunningham’s Cutthroats and Zelandia Unbound. In August 3136 both units were in the Fedkirk Badlands to prepare defenses when the two command lances clashed. Reports are contradictory but it appears that in an unexplained pique Reggie Cunningham's Atlas (an unknown AS7-K variant) attacked and destroyed Samir Saddapli's Ninja-To in the first five minutes, killing the Zelandia commander. The two command lances tore into each other, with every Cutthroat except Cunningham, and another Zelandia MechWarrior being killed. Both units were spread over several kilometers, and Cunningham seems to have assumed. The Zelandia recon lance, consisting of Second Lieutenant Kevin Wyvern in a Havoc, MechWarrior Jenn Talcred in a Gambit, MechWarrior Ryan Jaspers in a Havoc, and another Gambit rushed in.[1][2]

Cuuningham withdrew into the Badlands knowing that the restrictive terrain would limit the lighter ’Mechs' maneuverability and force them to engage one at a time. For nearly half an hour Cunningham stood his ground at the mud geyser Colossus of Lyons trading long range shots before he retreated even deeper. The Zelandia ’Mechs made high speed runs at the Atlas, attempted to target its legs with an alpha strike, and then jumped to the rear to make room for their comrades to replicate the procedure. On Wyvern's fourth run in, he suffered a Gauss round directly to his Havoc's cockpit, killing him instantly. The chase proceeded for another several hours, with a Gambit falling before the Atlas exhausted its ammunition.[1][2]

Still able to rely on his ER Large Lasers, Cunningham continued to work his way back before being cornered atop Mercy Falls, a hundred meter drop into hot sulfurous water. Cunningham seemed to consider jumping several times but ultimately surrendered when the Zelandia fire support lance arrived on the scene.[1][2]

Aftermath[edit]

Reggie Cunningham was convicted by a court of questionable impartiality and sentenced to prison, where he remained until Clan Jade Falcon conquered the world a few years later.[1]

The reason for the initial conflict is surrounded in some mystery, and none of the three survivors from the two command lances have volunteered any explanations.[1]
