Famous for his bitter feud with former friend Gavro Kent, Marco Halman was notable Whitworth pilot active during the Third Succession War.[1] [2]

History[edit]

Born in the Draconis Combine, Marco Halman would secure a place at the prestigous Sun Zhang Military Academy. Marco would become acquainted with Gavro Kent, another promising novice warrior, the two becoming fast friends, completing good-naturedly to become the Academy's top cadets. Upon graduation, both would serve within Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery's Rasalhague Regulars, each assigned a Whitworth, participating in numerous battles against the Federated Suns and the Bandits of Obadiah.[1]

Their friendship would shatter and become a bitter animity during a DCMS raid against the Federated Suns-held world of Elidere IV in 3026. Kent and Halman were ordered to take part in an attack against the village of Morik, their commander convinced the civilians there were harboring Federation agents and ordering it be razed and its entire population be slaughtered as a punitive measure. A horrified Kent refused to take in such a massacre, with an incensed Halman reporting him to their commander who filed charges of insubordination against Kent. [1]

Confronting his friend of many years, Kent nearly killed Halman as the pair violently came to blows, ultimately choosing to defect with his jungle camouflaged 'Mech to the Federated Suns, eventually securing a position within the Fifth Syrtis Fusiliers. With Halman's transfer to the Second Dieron Regulars the pair would again come into conflict, their embittered rivalry becoming legendary.[1] [2]

One of their most notable encounters was during the fighting the frequently contested Bergman's Planet. Halman spotted Kent that was providing long-range missile fire for the Federation forces on a ridge. Halman broke ranks with his lance to personally attack him at pointblank range. The pair would engage in a furious melee of medium laser fire and punches with Kent seeming to have gained the upper hand after he crippled one of Halman's 'Mech's arms and badly damaged its head, his foe saved only when the exasperated Kurita commander sent heavier Warhammers and Rifleman into the fray to prevent the collapse of his line of attack caused by Halman's disobedience.[1] [2]

The dissatisfied rivalry between Kent and Halman over the decades would eventually transfer to their sons, with Johnson Kent of the Twelfth Deneb Light Cavalry being actively targeted by Halman's son Samual during the Fifteenth Dieron Regulars' attack on Addicks during the FedCom Civil War, neither gaining the upper hand their own duel.[3]
