Marisol Cabrera was an officer within the mercenary Seventeenth Recon Regiment, also known as Camacho's Caballeros.

History[edit]

By 3056, Marisol had retired from active service as a MechWarrior, instead serving as Colonel Carlos Camacho's chief of staff[1] and financial comptroller of the regiment.[2] Despite having retired, Marisol still commanded respect from even the most irreverent members of the Caballeros, having earned the nickname la Dama Muerte - the Lady Death.[1]

Marisol was a small, wiry woman with auburn hair[3] and dark eyes[4] who had been attractive in her youth and continued to be so in later life.[3] Marisol was also in love with Don Carlos, a fact that a number of the Caballeros were aware of.[2]

During a Council of Elders meeting for the Caballeros on the 17th of October 3056, Don Carlos' fitness for command was a hotly debated topic, as he had failed to lead decisively in an attack by Word of Blake terrorists, and some in the regiment had noticed that his performance had been rather worse since the death of his daughter Patricia on Jeronimo. To the surprise of everyone attending the meeting, Marisol confirmed these rumors, and was dismissed as aide-de-camp by Carlos.[5]

On the 2nd of November 3056 the Seventeenth Recon found themselves in battle on Hachiman against the forces of the Ninth Ghost as a result of machinations involving the ISF and the Caballero's employer, Chandrasekhar Kurita, CEO of Hachiman Taro Electronics. During the course of the battle Don Carlos' son, Gavilán Camacho, had to retire from the front line as his Shadow Hawk had lost all of its weapons. Gavilán, a Major at this point, was determined to continue fighting and requisitioned a Scorpion 'Mech assigned to a more junior member of the Caballeros as part of a reserve force. While he was fighting as a part of that force, his father found himself facing a company of Ghost 'Mechs that had managed to infiltrate the Seventeenth's base via a covert route. Carlos, suffering from Patricia's death, had been monitoring the battle from the cockpit of his captured Mad Cat OmniMech, and chose to fight the Combine MechWarriors rather than surrender, in what he anticipated being his final battle. In an attempt to save him, Marisol attempted to distract the Combine MechWarriors while piloting Gavilán's damaged Shadow Hawk. The already-damaged 'Mech was quickly destroyed, and an enraged Carlos, convinced he had seen his only son die, tore into the Combine MechWarriors, damaging or destroying several single-handedly before relief forces arrived.[6]

After Carlos had been relieved by other 'Mechs from the Seventeenth, he decamped from his Mad Cat to return to his son's wrecked 'Mech, arriving just as rescue personnel removed Marisol from the 'Mech's cockpit. Marisol had taken fatal injuries, and was dying when he arrived; her last words to ask for Carlos' forgiveness, and confess that she loved him, and had acted out of that love in revealing his problems, in the hope that he would at last retire, and take her back to Galisteo with him.
