Mary Elmore was member of the Principia Militia as of 3071.[1]
History[edit]
Mary Elmore was a mercenary brat, daughter of a conventional fighter pilot mother and a technical genius father who flew and maintained their own MechBuster, the B-Breaker. Mary's early years were ones of constantly moving from unit to unit as the Elmore's struggled to find work as not many smaller units were interested in a single conventional fighter, and those few that were did not stay solvent long.[1]
Mary got her nickname when she was eleven years old, accidentally burning another pilot who expletive cry was soon corrupted to "Where's my Bloody 'El?" and eventually "Bloody 'El" or simply "El" for those closest too her. Despite her parent's best efforts to continue their careers as mercenaries, when the last unit they were serving in abruptly collapsed on the Capellan Confederation world of Principia, the Elmore family got stuck there unable to afford to leave. Her parents forcibly retired and Mary, who had learned her father's technical tricks and her mother's piloting skills, joined the planetary militia at the controls of B-Breaker around 3063.[1]
For the next seven years Mary worked to improve her skills during the relatively quiet period until the Word of Blake Jihad. During a series of training exercises in November 3070 on Principia, the newly arrived wet-navy Kraken Unleashed unit observed the planetary militia's complement of conventional fighters and hit it off so well with Mary's unit that Kraken CO Major Phill McBain invited them to serve along side his Krakens on their Argo Submersible Carrier the SNS Snake River as the so-called "Flying Fish".[1][2]
When the First Andurien Rangers attacked Principia in 3071 in the hope of take advantage of the confusion of the Jihad to convince the world to join the newly independing Duchy of Andurien, the Kraken Unleashed and the Principia Militia swiftly leapt into action. The defenders fought well, exhausting the Rangers' lines to the breaking point, and with the continued losses the Andurien forces retreated from the planet.[2] Mary would achieve two BattleMech kills during that engagement, but during her sortie her fighter was heavily damaged. To her amazement and joy Kraken Unleashed technicians was able to rebuild the ruined B-Breaker, fitting it larger fuel tanks and longer ranged Light Gauss Rifle, features more complementary to Mary's skills.[1]
