Maxim Transport Industries began as a start-up on Al Na'ir led by a retired infantry general responsible for developing the Maxim Hover Transport, introduced in 2689 which allowed militaries to transport an infantry platoon in a single vehicle as opposed to three or four separate vehicles. The unexpected success of the Maxim allowed MTI to open plants on Skye and Sian, with unrealized plans for additional plants on Atreus and Kathil. MTI's subsequent attempts to introduce new products into the military market were categorically unsuccessful and a major drain on the company's profitability.[1]
A major scandal erupted in 3037 with accusations of embezzlement, inappropriate activities between co-workers, and rumors of bizarre hazing rituals. Sensing an opportunity, prominent manufacturers bought out nearby MTI facilities, with Scarborough Manufacturers purchasing the MTI plant on Al Na'ir, Cyclops Incorporated absorbing the MTI plant on Skye,[2] and Hellespont Industrials seizing the MTI plant on Sian with an armed force.[1]
