MechWarrior (SNES)/Storyline

3017[edit]

It was the year of the septuacentennial of the founding of the Federated Suns. For exactly 700 years, House Davion had ruled this portion of the Inner Sphere. Herras Ragen's father was a Colonel of an elite force in the powerful Davion army, but the army of Hanse Davion was not on the planet of Redondo that fateful night of January 12th. Colonel Joseph T. Ragen was an idol to his son. He was the best MechWarrior in the best force in the army of the best of the Successor Houses. But there was more to the man than the boy knew. The colonel had been working to infiltrate and destroy the renegade mercenary cartel called the Dark Wing Lance – and he'd learned entirely too much. Somehow, the location of his residence had leaked to the Dark Wing Lance, and a plan was drawn up for a covert hit operation. Before taking action, the members made a pact; immediately after the hit, they would disband and lay low for 10 years, maintaining a code of strict secrecy, before regrouping to again undertake their nefarious enterprise.

Under cover of night, the lance attacked. While playing at a friend's home, young Herras heard the sounds of the firing. Rushing home, he found a roaring inferno where he and his mother and father and sister had lived and eaten and laughed and cried together. Orphaned at the age of 12, he vowed that someday he would have revenge on those who had done this.

3027[edit]

The outrage and shock that echoed through every home in the Federated Suns has long since died down, but it lives on in the heart of Herras Ragen, now a young man. After he saw what happened to his family, Herras could not serve the House of Davion. Now he makes his living, one day at a time, as a freelance MechWarrior – selling his services, not to the highest bidder, but to anyone whose contract might lead him closer yet to the insidious Dark Wing Lance.

Herras has tirelessly and obsessively chased down every rumor about the Dark Wing Lance. This quest has led his mere, to the planet Galatea, where mercenary MechWarriors and the dregs of the Inner Sphere gather.

But we don't need to tell you this – for you are Herras Ragen.

Club Zero-Zero[edit]

Club Zero-Zero (so called because it's on Galatea's equator – 0° latitude – and at 0° longitude) is the place to be, if you want to hear news and rumors and get tips about where you might find Dark Wing Lance members. You'll be able to meet a variety of characters here, as well as to view your holovid messages and watch the NewsNet. It's important to make full use of the Club's facilities, or you won't know what contracts to ask for at G.H.Q., and the necessary contracts won't be available to you. So pay close attention!

Cast of Characters[edit]

Cearle Jamist[edit]

The proprietor and maître d' of the club. He gets on your nerves sometimes with his constant chatter, but he seems like a nice guy. But you're new here on Galatea, you don't know who you can trust…

Larman Sholest[edit]

Larman is an experienced merc, a veteran of more battles than he can remember. He's kept his skin in one piece through it all, so he definitely knows his stuff.

Duff Skully[edit]

A mercenary whose loyalty is unquestioned; everybody knows his loyalty is to Number One and the almighty C-bill.

Meece Yerta[edit]

If you need some extra cash on the side, go see Meece. He's kinda sleazy, a merc who likes to get others to take the tough jobs for him.

Agent Vermin Minter[edit]

This spy has a compromised comm link with House Marik; her holovids keep winding up in your hands.

Zach Slasher[edit]

A mercenary MechWarrior you'll meet along the way. Make sure it's not in a dark alley, okay?

Roden Wull[edit]

So you want some information, huh? Got any C-bills? Professional informants are an unpleasant necessity in this day and age.

Yerg Gantor[edit]

Another veteran merc, and one tough cookie.

Lana Mann[edit]

The lovely spy from House Davion. No one can resist her charms.

Wolf Glupper[edit]

Yet another merc. With so many mercs kickin' around, you can see that you guys are a dime a dozen.

G.H.Q. (General HeadQuarters)[edit]

G.H.Q. is a clearinghouse for mercenary contracts. The process of negotiating contracts, like many things in the 'twenties, has become a cold, impersonal computerized interaction. Once you've accepted a contract, you can't take any other contracts; you'll have to fulfill your obligation… or go down tryin'.

Mission Information[edit]

After you've gotten the hang of being a MechWarrior, you'll see the importance of knowing as much as you can about your mission before taking off. On the contract, it tells the type of mission you're going on – it's vital to know what it is you're expected to do!

Garrison Duty[edit]

The easiest missions. Houses normally employ mercenaries for garrison duty to free up their own troops for the front line. Defend a planet from the odd 'Mech or two (destroy all you find), and you've earned yourself some easy money.

Riot Duty[edit]

Somewhat similar to garrison duty, but larger groups of 'Mechs will appear, and you'll be paid more. You gotta get 'em all to complete the mission.

Reconnaissance Raid ("Recon")[edit]

You have to locate and collect a specific object on the planet while fighting off enemy 'Mechs.

Objective Raid[edit]

One step up from recon raids. The objective is still to collect something, but there'll be more 'Mechs in your way this time, and of course the pay is better.

Planetary Assault[edit]

Enemy 'Mechs are trying to get into a base, and you gotta stop 'em all. If just one gets in or if the base gets destroyed, you've failed in your mission.

Offensive Campaign[edit]

Same as a Planetary Assault, but there'll be more 'Mechs and higher pay.

Security Duty[edit]

Protect a base from attacking 'Mechs. You'll have to destroy them all, and make sure the base doesn't get destroyed in the process.

Siege Campaign[edit]

You have to locate and destroy and enemy base. It's protected by 'Mechs, of course, and you'll have to deal with those too.

The 'Mechs[edit]

The BattleMech is a highly sophisticated descendant of twentieth-century war machines called "tanks." The most powerful war machines ever built, these behemoths dominate the battlefields of the Succession Wars. 'Mechs come in four basic categories: light, medium, heavy, and assault.

Light 'Mechs, at 20 to 40 tons, are the most inexpensive and common type; they're mostly used in reconnaissance due to their speed and jump capability. Medium 'Mechs are the real work-horses of the MechWarrior universe. Ranging from 40 to 60 tons, they usually end up doing the dirty work because of their versatility. Heavy 'Mechs, weighing in at 60-to-80 tons, are the major force on the battlefield. Their capacity for delivering and withstanding enormous amounts of damage can make all the difference in a battle. The assault 'Mechs are the true heavyweights of the MechWarrior universe. With tonnage ranging from 80 to 100, their massive armor and weaponry make them formidable opponents. But they're pretty darn slow.

The secrets of the intricate technology involved in making 'Mechs was lost in the chaos of the Succession Wars – nowadays, the best that people can do is mix-and-match 'Mech parts. Lost technology (called simply "LosTech") has become a valuable commodity – there's always the hope that someday the secrets of building 'Mechs will be rediscovered.

Nexus[edit]

The Nexus may not be the biggest or strongest 'Mech around, but it's nothin' to sneeze at. Reliable and quick, the Nexus is a good beginning 'Mech until you earn enough C-bills to buy something with more oomph.

Nexus-A[edit]

The Nexus-A is a little heavier than the basic Nexus 'Mech. The main difference, though, is the substitution of the missiles instead of the machine gun.

Nexus-B[edit]

This variant of the Nexus, with the addition of arms, gains some weight, but packs considerably more punch with its missiles and medium laser.

Nexus-C[edit]

With the triple whammy of medium-range missiles and medium laser and machine guns, this is the most powerful of the Nexus variants. It can also withstand the most punishment of any of the Nexus 'Mechs

Raijin[edit]

The Raijin, named after the mythological Japanese god of thunder, is well named. It may not be as quick as lightning, but it unquestionably makes itself heard with its long-range homing missiles and medium laser.

Fujin (Raijin-A)[edit]

This variant of the Raijin was affectionately dubbed "Fujin" by MechWarriors of Japanese ancestry, after their mythological twin gods of thunder (Raijin) and wind (Fujin). The Fujin lives up to its namesake by dint of its versatility and ferocity.

Grand Crusader[edit]

This heavy attack 'Mech, a variant of the popular Crusader, is one of the most effective fighting machines around. Its twin PPCs make it a formidable opponent against any 'Mech unlucky enough to be in the vicinity.

Ragnarok[edit]

The dictionary defines Ragnarok as: "the final destruction of the world in the conflict between the Norse gods and the powers led by Loki." Pretty heavy stuff, which is fitting for this gigantic assault 'Mech. Someday you might run into a four-legged variant, commonly referred to as the Ragnarok/4. But on Galatea, you'll only encounter the standard two-legged variety.

Missions[edit]

Mission 1[edit]

Herras Ragen: It has taken me ten years to develop and refine my skills to the point where I am now ready to face the Dark Wing Lance, that renegade mercenary cartel that destroyed my family all those years ago.

Cearle: Hi there! My name's Cearle. Listen, if you want work, there are some jobs on Galeton. And if you want to talk to someone, feel free to drop by anytime. Oh, and by the way, if you hear anybody drop any planet names, such as Galeton, remember them and select a contract with that same planet name at GHQ – it's sure to lead you to more information. But don't rush straight off to fight on Galeton. First you should go to the 'Mech complex and upgrade your armor and weapons systems – homing missiles are best.

NewsNet: Renegade mercenaries known as the "Dark Wing lance" have been declared outlaws. Anyone with information should report it immediately.

NewsNet: Prince Hanse Davion presented Lieutenant Andrew Redburn with the Silver Sunburst for his actions in the Kittery ambush.

Mission 2[edit]

Larman Sholest: I know you don't know me yet, but a good friend of yours told me to give you this envelope. He said that it would hold you in good stead for the rest of your quest – and I believe him.

Sholest: Sholest. Larman Sholest is the name. Herras, is it? Nice to meet you. I've been in this business for quite some time now and I've learned that if you're smart, you reap the rewards. But if you're not, you're certainly in for a mighty tough time.

Cearle: How did you do out there? Still fancy yourself as a MechWarrior, huh? Well, if you're up for something a little different, try Zacapa. But before you go to that battle, make sure you get your 'Mech reloaded and repaired. And if you have enough money left, upgrade your weapons or armor.

Mission 3[edit]

Cearle: Listen, I know you're new around here and don't quite know what to do, so I'm going to give you a hint. After completing a mission, be sure to read all the holovids. I know I shouldn't be doing this, but take a quick look at this holovid a mercenary accidentally left behind and you'll see what I mean.

Lana Mann: Lana Mann reporting, sir! I've received and decoded my latest assignment. And you can be sure that I'll keep on the tail of the Dark Wing lance for as long as it takes to bring them all to justice. My next report will be from Kagran.

Mission 4[edit]

Meece Yerta: The name's Meece Yerta. The pleasure's all mine. I haven't seen you around here before, but you look like the trustworthy type. If you're interested, I need help with some security duty I'm conducting on Rostov. There'll be a big bonus in it for you! Interested?

Herras: Yes.

Meece: That's the way. I can see we're going to go places together. But don't forget that if you want a reward, you'll have to come back and see me after the mission is finished.

Roden Wull: This is Roden Wull, boss. I've figured out that the renegade lance we've been discussing is instigating a Recon Raid on Zhada. Apparently, they've already stashed their ammo reserves on the planet!

Cearle: Excellent job, Herras! If you continue to work as well as you have been, you'll be sure to find whoever you're looking for!

Mission 5[edit]

Meece: Hey, great job, Herras! Sorry I didn't make it – something came up. You know how it is. Maybe next time? Anyway, here's your bonus, and if you keep it up, I can tell we're in for a beautiful friendship!

NewsNet: Colonel Ardan Sortek and Lieutenant Andrew Redburn, Hero of Kittery, left New Avalon for a tour of the Lyran Commonwealth.

NewsNet: Large uprisings have been instigated on Quilon and Puxi. The lances involved have been engaging in large scale guerrilla warfare operations, which under Davion law, are grounds for banishment from the House's domain. Contracts will be offered to quell any further unrest.

Cearle: Here's your order, Herras. I'll put it on your tab.

Mission 6[edit]

Sholest: Trying to stop those guerrilla warfare operations on Puxi, huh? That's funny, because I heard that the action was on Quilon. I can tell you're new at this game, kid, but don't worry – everyone has to start somewhere.

Cearle: Well done! If you can continue to keep your repair costs down, upgrading or even customizing your 'Mech will be no problem at all.

Mission 7[edit]

Wull: Boss, there seems to be a connection between Wolf Glupper and the Dark Wing Lance.

Cearle: Good work out there. This soda's on the house. By the way, I overhead one of the mercs saying that Wolf Glupper is working for Marik on Dalview. I wonder what that's all about?

Mission 8[edit]

Yerg Gantor: Wolf has ripped me off again! Can you believe it – someone tryin' to two-time Yerg Gantor and expecting to get away with it! I want that guy, if it's the last thing I do! I will not rest until I get my revenge.

Mann: Sir, an emergency has broken out on Solaris. We uncovered a spy at one of our intelligence installations who has wired the place to blow sky high! If we don't locate and disarm the remote detonator immediately, I fear the worst!

Mission 9[edit]

NewsNet: More militant uprisings have been reported on Galeton. These uprisings have been fueled by a supply of stolen property that has been hidden on this planet. Davion strongly advises against mercenaries following this dangerous path.

NewsNet: Ardan Sortek, Andrew Redburn, and their retinue arrived at Pacifica (Chara III) where the Kell Hounds are stationed. Three DropShips of Kurita forces landed on the planet to ambush the Hounds and their guests.

Vermin Minter: Agent Vermin Minter reporting. Marik intelligence suggests that Wolf Glupper is our man. He instigated the initial guerrilla attacks on Galeton, and possibly Zhada. We will keep working on his current location.

Mission 10[edit]

Sholest: I hear you've been looking for Wolf. He's been laying low on the planet with two large icebound areas – seems he can't wait for things to cool down. So go there now and you'll find what you've been searching for. Oh, and don't forget your thermal underwear.

Mission 11[edit]

Herras: Well, I've certainly taught Wolf Glupper a lesson he'll never forget. But I will not be able to rest until I have brought the remaining Dark Wing Lance members to justice.

Wull: Hey boss, this garbled note just fell into my hands. I couldn't really make much of it out, but I could see as plain as day that the initials at the bottom were Z.S. and D.S. Underneath the initials were the words: "DWL Members"!

Mann: Some mercenaries are having fun trying to disrupt the current government on Kagran. But something just doesn't gel with me, sir. I feel that something a lot larger is going on that none of us are aware of!

Minter: Sir, reports have just come in that indicate Wolf Glupper, a known member of the Dark Wing Lance, has been put out of action in a spectacular fight on Zacapa. However, the identity of Wolf's opponent is unknown. They fled the scene shortly afterwards!

Mission 12[edit]

NewsNet: Simon Johnson, Head of the Lyran Intelligence Corps, briefed Ardan Sortek and Andrew Redburn on the plan for Melissa Steiner to visit her future husband, Hanse Davion, in the Federated Suns.

NewsNet: Widespread reports of infighting among the mercenary ranks have been filtering in. Stiff penalties can and will be imposed should a hired lance not successfully complete all requirements of a contract.

Cearle: Did you read the latest NewsNet? It looks like the Houses are really trying to crack down on the mercenaries. Don't know how much luck they'll have, though. I've already heard some of the mercs are heading down to Drena.

Sholest: You weren't talking to Cearle again, were you? He's not always right, you know. 'Course, if I were you, I'd take some work with the boys who are trying to set up a planetary assault. But I guess I'm not you, am I?

Mission 13[edit]

Sholest: You pulled it off! You must be learning, kid. Rumors say that Meece Yerta intercepted a holovid with some vital information on it. Meece is a real wimp, though. He always makes other people do his dirty work. Unless, of course, it's garrison duty on Galeton or something else that's real easy.

Meece: So, Herras, Larman tells me that I've got something you're after pretty bad. You know it's going to cost you big this time. Well?

Herras: No.

Meece: That's one of the biggest mistakes you'll ever make!! I guess you're going to be stuck on Zhada now.

Cearle: The four day weather forecast doesn't look too promising, does it?

Mission 14[edit]

Minter: Agent Minter here sir. I've currently got my best men tracking down Zach Slasher. It looks like Zach is trying to launch a planetary assault. Depending on the outcome of my investigations, I'll send my next report from either Escalon or Dalview.

Mission 15[edit]

Cearle: A few of the buys were in yesterday talking about something that sounded real important. They headed off to Escalon to see what they could find out. I know you'll do the same – you're such a nosy son of a gun.

Minter: Sir, we have now been able to confirm several points about the Dark Wing Lance. There are, in fact, four members. Neither Wolf Glupper nor Zach Slasher are the brains behind the operation. The other two gu… (holovid damaged)

Mission 16[edit]

Cearle: So tell me, what do you think about the political situation in the Inner Sphere?

Wull: No doubt about it, boss! No doubt at all. Zach Slasher is definitely a member of the Dark Wing Lance. I'm watching his every move, and if I'm not mistaken, it looks like he's caught a ride to Cawdor.

Mann: Miss Mann reporting, sir. I've managed to infiltrate a small underground network on Puxi that may lead us to some important information.

Mission 17[edit]

NewsNet: The House of Davion has placed Zach Slasher on the "Most Wanted List" due to his alleged connections with the Dark Wing Lance. Anyone with information should contact the appropriate authorities immediately. Reward is negotiable.

NewsNet: Melissa Steiner and Clovis Holstein found and rescued Lieutenant Andrew Redburn, who had survived an explosion in the tunnels of Styx.

Meece: Rumor has it that you've got a good eye. I need someone like that. Are you in?

Herras: Yes.

Meece: Smart move, Herras. You see, my 'Mech's all busted up and the moment, and I need you to return the stuff I left on Qutang. There may be a big wad of C-bills in it for you!

Mann: Miss Mann here, sir. I'm sorry to report bad news. Zach Slasher was able to escape using all the commotion as a cover. However, the good news is that we tracked a DropShip leaving for Rostov.

Mission 18[edit]

Cearle: Didn't you say you were after someone by the name of Zach? Well you're not going to believe this, but he came into the club! I kept an ear out for your and heard him talking about two planets – one was Kagran and the other one was on a planet which has an island that resembles the shape of a bat.

Mission 19[edit]

Wull: Boss, all the mercenaries are really tight-lipped about something! Well, tight-lipped until you flash them the right kind of bill. Anyway, it turns out that somebody is trying to hire them for the purposes of riot duty on a planet that has an island that resembles the shape of a bat. If you're thinking what I'm thinking, you know it's got to be Zach!

Mission 20[edit]

Herras: I'll have to play it a bit cooler if I'm going to locate the other Dark Wing Lance members. If word gets out that I took out the first two, the other guys in the lance will be sure to come after me!

NewsNet: The House of Davion stressed the extreme importance of its sovereignty over interplanetary affairs. The House has respectfully requested the aid of any willing mercenaries to help with riot duty on Cawdor.

Cearle: I'd watch your back these days, Herras. It seems that some of the mercenaries got a bit touchy about what you did to Zach Slasher. I guess they figure that you shouldn't hassle your own kind. Mercenaries, that is.

Minter: Sir, someone else appears to be after the Dark Wing Lance. The second DWL member, Zach Slasher, was recently defeated. It is my professional opinion that this job was carried out by the same person that worked over Wolf.

Mission 21[edit]

Cearle: Hey Herras! Did you hear the one about the mercenary who got lost…

Sholest: Word has it that some of the boys are planning something, but I don't know who it's against. But I'll tell you what – I do know that they've already sent supplies ahead of them to Solaris.

Wull: Hey boss, I've been asking around for people with the initials D.S. The only one that really fits the bill is Duff Skully. You'll have to send me his profile as soon as possible.

Mission 22[edit]

Meece: Hey, get a load of this – a piece of LosTech was said to be left on Zacapa. If you can find it for me, I'll cut you in for some of the profits. What do you say?

Herras: Yes.

Meece: Well, don't just stand there looking beautiful, you've got work to do on Zacapa.

Mann: I have found that the mercenaries have been playing it low-key since the latest message on the NewsNet. As a result, I would recommend offering garrison assignments on Zhada to maintain this new onset of peace.

Mission 23[edit]

Meece: You came through again, Herras!! This will make me a fortune. Sorry, I mean it'll make us a fortune. Here, put this in your pocket, and spend it wisely.

Gantor: This ambush oughta teach the young son of a gun to squeal on 'is mercenary buddies. The only thin' is, I don't expect 'e'll be around to remember! Ha ha ha!

Mission 24[edit]

NewsNet: Davion is instigating a full scale siege campaign on Rostov, where intelligence suggests Duff Skully is located. Duff Skully broke into a high security section of a Davion installation and stole top secret documents.

Cearle: I heard about the holovid you picked up from Yerg Gantor after you put an end to his little ambush. He'll definitely be red faced now. And to think he thought that he could stop you achieving your goal!

Mann: Sir, I respectfully request some time off in view of the recent disappearance of one of my informants. I will be unable to go to Rostov to carry on with House work, but will instead be working on Jelenia.

Mission 25[edit]

Mann: If you are currently reading this holovid – I need your help! The same people that have recently captured my informant have now captured me. The only way I can get released is to hand over the plans I have stashed on Cawdor. You are my only hope!

Mission 26[edit]

Sholest: One of my many reliable sources has told me that something is going down on Solaris. Somebody's after some information that a spy has intercepted. Doesn't make sense to me. What do you make of it?

Mission 27[edit]

Mann: Thanks a heap, Herras! I don't know what I could have done without you. As a reward for saving me, I know you're after Duff Skully, so go to Cawdor and you should find him there.

Mission 28[edit]

Herras: Hmmm. Three down, one to go. But this next one looks like he's going to be the hardest one to track down by far. Nobody knows who the head of the Dark Wing Lance really is.

Cearle: Herras, I'm glad you showed up. You're not going to believe who's been looking for you. Yerg Gantor. That's right! The same guy who tried to knock you off not too long ago. Anyways, he told me to give you this holovid.

Gantor: Errr… remember me? I've been real impressed with your work, see, and I woz kinda wonderin' if you'd do some work for us. I'd pay you top dollar, 'course, and give you a bonus – the location of the head of the Dark Wing Lance! So if you're in, go to Quilon.

Minter: Sir, it appears that the same mercenary that knocked out the first two members of the Dark Wing Lance has struck again! Duff Skully's smoldering mess on Cawdor was found to have been attacked in the same manner as the first two DWL members.

Mission 29[edit]

Gantor: Real good, 'Erras! Our next mission, if you decide to take it, of course, will be a little more dangerous. We're gonna launch a siege campaign on Rostov.

Mann: Sir, pardon my concern, but if I were the head of the Dark Wing Lance, I would start to panic. It looks like the mercenary that has already come after the first three DWL members is now going after the last surviving member!

Mission 30[edit]

NewsNet: Security at a high level intelligence installation on Jelenia has been compromised by a break-in. Security forces will be stepped-up in the region.

Cearle: Sorry, Herras. There's nothing new to report at this stage.

Mann: Well sir, it looks like my suspicions were correct. Since some of the head honchos have been stopped, it seems that the remaining people are recruiting new members. I'm currently looking into who they might be.

Mission 31[edit]

Gantor: Sorry you 'aven't been able to find me, 'Erras. Somethin' else came up. Anyway, there is some more work on Zacapa, or if ya reckon you're up to it, we got a real dangerous job on Drena.

Mission 32[edit]

Cearle: So, Herras, you're in with the boys now. I dunno, but there's something I don't like about Yerg Gantor. Maybe it's his smell? Who knows? But anyway, I'd lay low for a little while if I were you. Maybe pick up some easy work on Galeton?

Mission 33[edit]

Meece: I got a real big tip this time, Herras! A whole lot of money has been lost on… wait a minute… I can't tell you unless you take the mission.

Herras: Yes.

Meece: Knew you'd be in, as soon as I mentioned the word "money." Anyway, go to Jamison and make us both rich.

Mission 34[edit]

NewsNet: The House of Davion is employing all available resources to combat the mercenary underground. It will continue to do so until every member has been found. Anyone with information will be well rewarded for their efforts.

Sholest: You've come to the right person if you want to know what's going on. Quilon ring a bell? Thought it might. Some of the key mercenaries are working from there.

Minter: Sir, unfortunately our fears have been realized – the head of the Dark Wing Lance has apparently decided that it's time to expand. That's where this mercenary underground has come from.

Mission 35[edit]

Minter: Sir, intelligence agents have learned that the mercenary underground has organized a hit on Zhada. They've planted bombs at a number of installations, and the detonator is rumored to be hidden somewhere on the planet.

Mission 36[edit]

Minter: Sir, the mercenary underground has definitely been run by the Dark Wing Lance. Apparently, the head of the DWL has been recruiting other mercenaries to do his dirty work.

Mann: Sir, I think I'm onto something bigger than we ever imagined. If my hunch is correct, the head of the Dark Wing Lance has been under our noses the whole time!

Gantor: You've done real good, 'Erras, and, as I promised, I'll tell ya where the 'ead of the Dark Wing Lance is. Meet me on the base planet that 'as a battle arena in the center and I'll set up a meeting between the both of ya. Ha ha haaaaa!!!!!!

Mission 37[edit]

Mann: Herras!! You've been set up. Yerg Gantor has been using you. He is the head of the Dark Wing Lance! Someone is… (transmission terminated)

Gantor: Gantor 'ere, 'Erras. You might think you're smart, but you're not!! I've been controlling your destiny from under your very nose. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end. And your end is only moments away.

Failure

To come so close and yet so far from achieving your lifelong ambition caused you more anguish than the continual barrage of ammunition Yerg Gantor pounded into your 'Mech.

Success

No goal was more important, no cause more noble than to restore your family's honor. And there you were.

Shot after shot rang out as each weapon blasted away at the rapidly disintegrating 'Mech. Finally, in one great explosion, Gantor's 'Mech collapsed into a smoking heap.

Only now can you breathe a sigh of relief and rest assured that the Dark Wing Lance's reign of terror has finally been stopped – by you!!!
