Offshore[edit]
BRIEFING[edit]
Defend an offshore drilling platform on the northwest coastline of the planet's secondary continent. Militia navy units have made frequent raids, taxing the facility's operating budget beyond acceptable margins. By offering mercenary contracts, Transpax, Inc., (an HM&E subsidiary) takes defense of its commercial interests to the next level.
Castle: Our main opposition in this engagement will come from Halloran V militia naval units. A large task force of naval units lies several miles off the coastline, consisting of two destroyer groups and the aerospace carrier Indignation. The navy is not expecting any resistance, so a good bloody nose should send them packing.
DURING MISSION[edit]
Castle: Transpax coastal facilities are straight ahead to the south. A total of four large offshore platforms are at Nav Points Alpha and Beta. The residential and depot buildings are centered around Nav Points Gamma and Delta.
Deneb Control: Spectre One, this is Deneb Control. Looks like you got here just in time. We show multiple inbound vectors in the water running coded signals on a military band. Over.
Spectre: Roger, Deneb. Heading to Alpha for visual confirmation.
Deneb Control: Alpha Dock confirms militia watercraft escorting barge. Looks like they came to do a little shopping.
Spectre: I'm sure they won't mind if we check their credentials. Moving to engage.
Beowulf: Militia soldiers. Hardly a sporting fight.
BullsEye: Foolish militia dogs. Don't they know who I am?
Spectre: Can it! Take these guys out and minimize damage to the docks.
Deneb Control: This is Deneb Control. Militia units have opened fire on the platforms. Take 'em out, quick!
Spectre: Roger. We're on it! Spectre out.
Spectre: Alpha looks clear of hostiles. Status report?
Deneb Control: Second set of signals, coming in from the east! Wait one… Theta confirms another barge and some hovercraft. Barge is withdrawing. Condors and Harassers are coming in fast and hard.
Spectre: Making best speed to Beta.
BullsEye: Hovercraft coming up pronto!
Spectre: Engaging hovercraft. They're moving onto the base.
Castle: Spectre One, be advised. SatCom shows the destroyer Reynolds moving in from the task force. Carrier is launching Nightshades in support. ETA one minute to your location.
Spectre: Hovercraft neutralized.
Deneb Control: This is Deneb Control. Turret grid is at 80 percent efficiency. We can't handle a destroyer unsupported. Move your lance to intercept, Commander!
Spectre: Okay, Spectre Lance. Now we earn that check.
Hannibal: I'll give it my best, sir.
Hannibal: Enemy aircraft, heading our way!
Spectre: Get in close to the destroyer and their turrets will have a hard time tracking us.
Spectre: That did it!
Deneb Control: Great work, Spectre One! Looks like you were worth the money.
Spectre: Don't you forget it.
Castle: Excellent work, Commander. I'll upload our mission report to MercNet and have our new contract offers ready by the time you are out of refit.
Spectre: Affirmative, Control. Spectre One out.
AFTERMATH[edit]
Castle: Transpax has verified mission success and released our payment from escrow. It is unlikely the naval militia will give up with just a bloody nose. Though nothing is on MercNet right now, I wouldn't be surprised to see us on defensive duty with them again.
