Media Player, Standard

The Media Player, Standard (often called MPS or Mips) was a portable media player designed by Lyran intelligence division Loki in 3103.[1]

Overview[edit]

As part of Operation HOLLYWOOD, Loki designed the MPS for widespread sale across Clan-occupied territories. It was a very simple device, even compared to Western Alliance-era electronics. The MPS measured 15x9x2.5 centimetres, with a ten-centimetre 2D color screen above control buttons on the front. It could play ComStar-standard media chips, and security features tracked usage and verified that files were approved by Clan censors.[1]

Due to its extreme technical simplicity, its detailed user manual, the MPS was highly moddable - a practice encouraged both by Loki and by many Clan scientists and technicians. The MPS could be turned into many sorts of practical technical tools, or even a full noteputer. Its security systems could be bypassed with ease, too, turning it into a platform for unauthorized media.[1]
