Planetary History[edit]
First Succession War[edit]
As some point during the First Succession War between 2976[9] and 2818 the planet had been conquered by the LCAF, and the FWML decided to prepare the conquest of the planet by first wiping out the Steiner air support that consisted of nearly twenty Seydlitz class fighters and several older types. The Marik attack was a disaster with the slower Marik bombers were swarmed by the Steiner defenders. Because of this the battle of Megrez slowed up by nearly three years.[27]
The planet was back on Marik hands by 2822.[10][11]
Second Succession War[edit]
Having been conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the Second Succession War, the Eridani Light Horse mercenary unit recaptured Megrez for the Free Worlds League in 2854.[12]
Third Succession War[edit]
At some point in the Third Succession War, the Lyran Commonwealth seized Megrez from the Free Worlds League. When Janos Marik ordered an assault which took back Megrez in 3015, the Lyrans reciprocated by taking Ford the same year.[13]
In 3018, Megrez was the site of a notable battle involving the First Marik Militia. The First were on Megrez in a routine garrison posting when the planet became the site of a large assault by forces from the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces. The region known as the Skada Ravine became the site of a deadly close-quarters battle between LCAF forces and the Third Battalion of the First Marik Militia, which was also known as the Perth River Strike Battalion; it was this battle that saw the Commanding Officer of the Third, Marcus Radatz, awarded membership of the Order of the Silver Hand, as well as making the future Commanding Officer of the First Marik Militia, Shanna del Rey, a hero and overnight vidtape legend after her single-handed defeat of three LCAF 'Mechs.[14] One unnamed MechWarrior from the Perth River Strike Battalion, a minor noble piloting a Thunderbolt, was considered a sadistic sociopath by his own superiors. He was demoted after the fighting on Megrez for an unspecified incident that killed the family of Lyran Commonwealth citizen Simon Kincaid, but promoted back to lance commander only one year later in what was described as a recurring scenario.[28]
The Jihad[edit]
Megrez was one of the initial targets of the Skye and Bolan Province invasion of the Free Worlds League in March 3068. Named Operation ÜBERSCHATTEN, the invasion began on the 10th of March with attacks on Cascade, Megrez, and Togwotee.[17] As a part of the peace terms agreed between Marshall Jeremy Brett of the FWLM and Duke Alder Umayr of Bolan—and as a result of battlefield attrition—the Lyran Alliance withdrew its forces from Megrez by the end of 3069.[18]
Following the dissolution of the Free Worlds League in January 3079, elements within the Lyran Alliance moved to annex a number of former League worlds between August and September that year. Megrez was one of seven worlds conquered during this period, and the invasion only stopped when Archon Adam Steiner declared that any other bouts of what he termed "unauthorized adventurism" would be considered an act of treason.[19]
Dark Age[edit]
Megrez was attacked and conquered by Clan Wolf in mid-3140 after the Wolves turned upon the Lyran Commonwealth following Operation HAMMERFALL.[23][24]
