Planetary History[edit]

Melissia was originally settled from Coventry.[1] Melissia was a part of the Apollo Province of the Rim Worlds Republic and was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 27732775 Republic–Commonwealth war.[15]

Civil War Era[edit]

Melissia, as capital of a theather, was initially spared from the Clan Invasion, but during the FedCom Civil War, Clan Jade Falcon attacked it. During the Battle of Melissia (3064), Lyran Marshal Sharon Bryan choose the planet to install her command center, gathering all available forces. The fortification she made to be build, The Rock, weren't able to stop the Falcon's juggernaught, and after suffering a headhunting attack, the Rock fell under the clans, so Bryan's XO, General Adam Steiner was forced to order the retreat. However, a later counterattack of the Clan Wolf-in-Exile, the same year, returned it to Lyran control.[44][45]

Jihad[edit]

During the Jihad those members of the Estates General who either had the fortune to not be on Tharkad when the Word of Blake struck at the Lyran capital, or who managed to later escape from the siege there, convened as a quorum on Melissia. Although the Estates Genereal took on responsibility for managing the more mundane matters of state during the Jihad, they also managed to achieve a greater degree of authority over the infrastructure of the Alliance than was historically the case for their station. This was symptomatic of a problem across the Alliance that Archon Adam Steiner would struggle to deal with in the years after the Jihad; the chaos of the Jihad and the changes put in place due to Archon Peter Steiner-Davion's time on Tharkad during the Blakist siege resulted in a significant degree of power ending up in the hands of numerous other groups and people, who would later compete with the central Lyran government in the 3080s as the Alliance rebuilt itself.[46]

IlClan Era[edit]

Melissia stayed under dominion of Clan Jade Falcon for an unknown amount of time, until the departure of almost all their touman, and the creation of the Hinterlands changed it all. Melissia Falcon's small garrison was quickly annihilated, though the revolutionary government it was born soon faced by a coalition of local nobles. A bloody civil war, in which the nobles took the best part, ensued. The government was losing ground, when the arrival of the exiled duke Vedet Brewer changed it all. His First Hesperus Guards became the biggest military force on planet, but though both sides negotiated with him, he played them one against the other, and when the final battle ensued, Brewer turned against his ally, Duke Yiorgios Laskaris, engaging and destroying his mercenary forces. After that, Brewer formed a joint government led by him, including both factions, and announced the creation of a new state: the Vesper Marches, of which Melissia will be the capital.[47]

Geography[edit]

Melissia has a single continent that runs from pole to pole, named Jahreszeitwunder. In the higher latitudes, temperatures vary from extreme highs to extreme lows throughout a day. The Broad Run river starts in the mountains to the west and empties into Broad Run Delta to the east.[1]

The northern ice shelf has rich titanium deposits.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Jahreszeitwunder (Seasons of wonder): only continent of Melissia[55]
  • Broad Run River: river than divides the continent, birthing in the Valiant Mountains in the West and ending at the Broad Run Delta[55]
  • Loveless Valley: north of the Broad Run Delta, home to agriculture and the planetary capital[1]
