The Minekaze was a Lola I-class destroyer in service with the Draconis Combine Admiralty as the DCS Minekaze during the First Succession War.

History[edit]

In May 2788, the Minekaze was one of three Combine WarShips to defeat a counterattack by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in the Schedar system; Schedar had been captured by the Draconis Combine during the mass invasion of the Federated Suns that began in May 2787, and the attack on Schedar was one of three major attacks taking place under Operation SOLAR SHIELD, an attempt by First Prince John Davion to disrupt the invasion by attacking on the Terran flank of the invasion route, targeting in particular the front being led by Coordinator Minoru Kurita personally.[1][2]

The AFFS force assigned to recapturing Schedar consisted primarily of the Twenty-eighth Avalon Hussars, with support from armor and infantry forces drawn from regional militias within the Marlette Combat Region and escorted by a pair of WarShips, the Vincent-class corvette FSS Robespierre and the Carrack-class transport FSS Liverpool. The forces on Schedar were well-prepared and fortified, and swiftly called on the Minekaze and her sister ship DCS Shiokaze as well as the Vincent-class corvette DCS Kaiten to engage the approaching Hussars. The Liverpool and Robespierre attempted to shield the Hussars' transports, but the Kaiten swiftly tied up the Robespierre; ignoring the Liverpool completely—and leaving it to be destroyed by aerospace fighters—the Minekaze and Shiokaze struck at the DropShips, picking them off one at a time. With both the Liverpool and Robespierre destroyed, only two companies of Hussars made it to the surface of Schedar, making the attack a costly disaster for the AFFS.[1][2]
