Morges

Planetary History[edit]

Star League[edit]

During the final years of the Star League, Morges supported a garrison of the Star League Defense Force.[37]

Jade Falcon Assault of 3056[edit]

In 3056, tired of raids on their holdings from Morges, Clan Jade Falcon launched an attack on the planet. The Falcon force was led by Galaxy Commander Angeline Mattlov, but the garrison force was able to avoid being pinned down. It took the Jade Falcon's days to corner the defending forces in a small river valley where they could destroy them. However, the delaying tactics of the garrison forces had bought time for reinforcement to come to Morges' aid. Elements of the Wolf's Dragoons, 20th Arcturan Guards and 4th Skye Rangers had landed on world and moved to the attack. Mattlov may have chosen to back down with her forces already less than full strength, but the chance of gaining glory led her to assault the incoming force. Over the next two days, both sides threw everything they had at each other. With 75 percent of her forces damaged and low on ammunition, Angeline Mattlov ordered a retreat off of Morges.[38]

Refusal War[edit]

Morges was the site of the final battle of the Refusal War between Clan Jade Falcon and Clan Wolf.

As part of Ulric Kerensky's plan to save the Warden faction of Clan Wolf, Khan Phelan Kell led a large contingent of Wolves, both military and civilian, away from the Clan Occupation zones and to a new life in the Inner Sphere. On 20 November 3057 they arrived in the Morges system, where Phelan was surprised to find his father Morgan Kell in charge of planetary defense and the current political state within the newly-formed Lyran Alliance.[39] Close behind, Jade Falcon Star Colonel Angeline Mattlov arrived in system just 15 days later with the Omicron and Peregrine Galaxies, intent on eliminating the Wolves and any Inner Sphere forces in the way. She brought with her ten Clusters (plus one solahma unit) to accomplish the task. For their part, the Wolves and Hounds dug in and waited for the Falcons on Morges' uninhabited southern continent: Australarctica, where its winters of nonstop blizzards and freezing temperatures were quickly fatal to the unprepared.[40]

On 13 December at Icegrief Pass, the struggle commenced. Icegrief Pass was highly defensible, so Khan Kell placed units of the Kell Hounds there to draw in the Jade Falcons. The Falcons took the bait and were pounded by the Hounds, losing their entire 4th Talon Cluster.[41][42]

Next, the Wolves made an attack on the Falcons' landing base: Broken Hope, which was resupplying Falcon forces at Carson Rift. The attack forced Mattlov to pull her forces back from the Rift, and defend her base and supplies. The Falcons regrouped at the Bay of Broken Hope, and prepared for the coming onslaught.[43] The Wolves and Hounds did not disappoint, securing victory primarily through the use of brutally effective aerospace wing strafing runs on the pinned Falcons. The battle, and the Refusal War itself, ended on Morges at Broken Hope.[44]

The Jihad[edit]

Clan Jade Falcon launched an assault against the world of Morges on 8 February 3071, one of a number of attacks on Lyran Alliance worlds.[45]

Geography[edit]

Morges had at least one continent named Australarctica, which was the southern polar landmass.[54]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Bay of Broken Hope: location on the southern continent of Australarctica and site of an important battle during the Refusal War.[55][56]
    • Broken Hope: name of a Jade Falcon landing site and supply depo during the Refusal War six kilometers away from the Bay of Broken Hope.[55][56]
  • Carson Rift: icy location on the southern continent of Australarctica and site of an important battle during the Refusal War.[55]
  • Icegrief Pass: icy location on the southern continent of Australarctica and site of an important battle during the Refusal War.[54]
