Description[edit]
The Morrigan is a light BattleMech that was developed by Clan Nova Cat just after the Jihad to meet their need for a new scout 'Mech. The Nova Cats received technical and material support from the Draconis Combine who had access to the design as well. Political wrangling among the Nova Cats and Draconis Combine kept the overall production numbers low however. The design was deployed as part of the Nova Cat's second line troops, and the Combine sent Morrigans to their elite units.[1]
For its role as a scout, the 'Mech is equipped with an active probe to search out hidden targets. Its 280-rated XL engine allows for the design to reach speeds up to 129 km/h, which helps make up for lack of jump jets. The Morrigan's hull is protected by five and a half tons of ferro-fibrous armor.[1]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
The 'Mech's main weapon is its hard-hitting Model X heavy large laser, backed up by three ATM-3 launcher with three full tons of ammunition. With only 10 double heat sinks a MechWarrior must pay careful attention to keep from overheating the machine.[1] For its role as a scout, the 'Mech is equipped with an active probe to search out hidden targets.
Variants[edit]
- Morrigan 2
- This is an all energy weapon variant of the Morrigan designed in 3084[4] for the Draconis Combine's use. The ATM-3s are removed and switched out for a pair of ER medium lasers and small pulse lasers. A targeting computer, additional double heat sinks and, additional armor round out the additional changes to this variant.[1] BV(2.0)=1,874[5][4]
- Morrigan 3
- This variant is based on the first Combine variant developed in 3085.[6] This trades the heavy large laser and targeting computer for an experimental BattleMech taser, but leaves the rest of the Combine version's weaponry intact.[1] BV (2.0)=1,390[7][6]
- Morrigan 4
- Introduced during the Dark Age in 3111,[8] this variant uses five ER small lasers in each side torso to support a single TSEMP cannon in the right arm. BV (2.0) = 2,063[9][8]
- Morrigan 5
- This variant was also introduced during the Dark Age in 3124,[10] and is apparently designed for long range fire support. It carries a pair of Streak LRM-5s and a single ER PPC tied into a targeting computer. BV (2.0) = 1,904[11][10]
