Planetary History[edit]

Early history[edit]

Holmsbu was settled in 2239 as part of the Scandinavian colonization of the Rasalhague region and by 2319 had become a member of the Principality of Rasalhague. During the centuries Homlsbu was ruled by the Draconis Combine its denizens were atypically passive for Rasalhagians, showing defiance only in championing the Finnish language over the dominant Japanese and Swedenese tongues of their rulers. The DCMS protected Holmsbu from pirate raiders and in return the planet exported fish, rare metals and soldiers.[1]

Clan Invasion[edit]

Holmsbu was conquered in March 3050 by Clan Ghost Bear as part of the First Wave of Operation REVIVAL. The Forty-third Elemental Support Trinary of the Twelfth Bear Chevaliers was tasked with taking the planet, defended at the time by the Seventh and Eighth Corrugated Lancers, a pair of armored regiments supported by infantry. The defending Lancers confronted the Clanners at Redwood and Linden's Bluff, but were ill-prepared to face the battle armored Elementals. They were quickly defeated by the Ghost Bear warriors and surrendered.[45]

The Bears' initially oppressive rule led to a rebellion by Holmsbu's denizens which almost expelled the Bear garrison and nearly prompted WarShip bombardment in response. ComStar successfully mediated a resolution which led to lasting peace.[1]

First Combine-Dominion War[edit]

Operating out of Wolcott during the First Combine-Dominion War (3062 to 3063), the Black Omen mercenary unit secretly penetrated the Ghost Bear Dominion to raid Pinnacle, Holmsbu, and Thule where they disabled each planet's HPG and destroyed several supply depots.[46]

The Jihad[edit]

In March 3076, Holmsbu was the first of four Ghost Bear Dominion worlds to be raided by Clan Ice Hellion stragglers after the failed Ice Hellion invasion of the Clan Jade Falcon Occupation Zone several years before.[35][36]

Dark Age[edit]

The planet's remote location, inclement environment and proximity to easily-beaten Periphery pirates led to the Rasalhague Dominion selecting Holmsbu as a site for rearing new sibkos. But the use of valuable land for this purpose aggravated the inhabitants and left them with a mounting grievance against the Dominion government.[1]

IlClan Era[edit]

The vote on whether to join the new Star League divided Holmsbu no less than any other Dominion world. Ultimately the Denier faction proved victorious in the first vote, but debate continued throughout 3151 after ilKhan Alaric Ward rejected the plebiscite results. A staunch Joiner, Tau Galaxy Commander Ezekiel Vong was eventually moved to proclaim Holmsbu a Joiner world under warrior rule. His second-in-command Janie Cobb opposed him, and by February 3152 both their unit, the First Bear Regulars, and local militia were battling one another daily.[47]

After both faction leaders were killed early on, fighting continued with the Bear warriors' struggle mirrored by that of the Holmsbu's civilian population. Only the refusal of the Regulars' technicians to aid the warriors prevented even more damage, and eventually the passions of both Joiners and Deniers cooled.[48]

Geography[edit]

Holmsbu has five continents named Moss, Ryggebyen, Sarpsborg, Rakkes, and Askim. Holmsbu is a frigid world with little land surface, most of which is mountainous, and has no continents larger than Australia on Terra. An exception to the rule of biome diversity that applies to planets, Holmsbu's climate is overwhelmingly cool and rainy without being frozen; as a result the small deserts attract tourists.[1]

While lacking the population to support heavy industry, Holmsbu is rich in food, resources and energy.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Linden's Bluff[45]
