History[edit]
Winson was a Clan Wolf warrior who was taken as isorla by Clan Ghost Bear, just days after winning the Winson Bloodname.[1][2]
Winson, a staunch Crusader in the early days of the Great Debate, served briefly as a bondsman before regaining her warrior status, then rose through the ranks of her new Clan, finally becoming Khan.[3][4][5] Her political acumen was such that she eventually became identified as the leader of the Crusader movement.[6] Regarding an invasion of the Inner Sphere as inevitable, Winson ordered the design and production of new equipment, most notably the Bear Cub, although it would not be produced until decades later.[7]
In the year 3000, Winson, sensing that the Crusaders had gained the political advantage, called for a vote in the Grand Council on an invasion of the Inner Sphere; this would make good on the Crusader interpretation of Aleksandr Kerensky's Hidden Hope Doctrine.[8][9][10][11][12] She was opposed by Khan Kerlin Ward of Clan Wolf, who championed the Warden cause.[13] Ward countered Winson's plans with a proposal of his own: the creation of a reconnaissance force that would be sent to the Successor States, masquerading as a mercenary unit.[13][14][15][16] The logic of this argument carried the day: Clan Nova Cat and several other Crusader Clans broke away to vote in favor of Ward's proposal.[17]
This unit, which became known as Wolf's Dragoons, would provide the Clans with the intelligence to consider and perhaps properly plan an invasion.[18] The Dragoon Compromise ultimately forestalled the Clan Invasion by five decades. Khan Nadia Winson never lived to see the legacy of her efforts.[19]
Notes[edit]
- As a member of House Winson, Nadia Winson was a descendant of Jerome Winson, the first Khan of Clan Wolf.
- According to an account by Natasha Kerensky in the novel Blood Legacy, Winson was Khan of Clan Wolf at the time the Dragoon Compromise was enacted, and it was at her instruction that Wolf's Dragoons were formed.[20] Both of these points are contradicted by multiple sources.
- According to another account in the Jade Falcon Sourcebook, Winson was chairperson of the Grand Council at the time of the Dragoon Compromise, and was described as a moderate Warden. She awarded Clan Wolf the right to form the reconnaissance force.[21] The overwhelming majority of sources contradict this description.
