Early History[edit]

New India was discovered and colonized in the early to mid-twenty-second century. Like many systems in the anti-spinward region of the Inner Sphere, New India was discovered by explorers drawn from those regions of Terra known as Africa, the Middle East and Far East, who were driven by a common motivation; to escape the heavily centralized government on Terra, and avoid being caught once more between factions of the Terran Alliance. A garden world like Qurayyat, those who were drawn to colonize New India were the descendants of those who had lived within the Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere and others who had been trapped between the fragmented splinter states of the former Soviet Union and the assorted NATO countries; New India was already established as a colony world before a second wave of colonization would sweep through the region in the wake of the Outer Reaches Rebellion.[2]

Star League[edit]

Reunification War[edit]

By the end of the Age of War New India was a world within the Timbuktu Province of the Rim Worlds Republic.[3]

Civil war erupted in the Rim Worlds Republic in 2575, with the factions polarized around those loyal to First Consul Gregory Amaris and those loyal to the Rift Republican Army and the Rim Provisional Government.[39] New India was garrisoned by a detachment from the Fourth Amaris Fusiliers from at least 2581 onwards, a regiment which had chosen to side with the RRA and the RPG.[40] The Star League eventually decided to intervene in the civil war in support of Gregory Amaris, and in 2579 assembled Task Force MAILED FIST to help secure Amaris' control over the Rim Worlds Republic. A multinational force headed by the Star League Defense Force, Task Force MAILED FIST was responsible for executing Operation MAILED FIST, the name given to the military intervention. the first wave of attacks focused on securing significant worlds near Apollo,[41] until a destructive raid on Alarion by forces from the Fourth Fusiliers in retaliation prompted the SLDF to alter its initial strategy for the campaign, the focus shifted to reducing Rim Worlds Army concentrations throughout the Republic and the capture of key worlds.[42]

In late 2584 the SLDF changed tactics again; a number of major RWA units had been destroyed or captured, and the focus for the campaign shifted to capturing worlds of strategic importance, but the campaign was slowed by the greatly increased resistance offered by the RWA and local civilian populations, prompted by atrocities performed by the Draconis Auxiliary Corps when they captured Nightwish in mid-2584. Duke Narinder Selaj of Battle Group Timbuktu assigned three formations from the 2nd Marik Auxiliary Corps - the Second Defenders of Andurien, the Second Brigade of the Fusiliers of Oriente and the Second Regulan Hussars - to the conquest of New India and the neutralization of the last contingent from the Fourth Fusiliers in 2586 (the other major component of the Fourth Fusiliers having been destroyed on Urjala in 2583).[43]

The resulting campaign was actually something of a relief for the beleaguered SLDF, as it was one of the few stand-up fights to occur during Operation MAILED FIST, unmarked by the more extreme defensive measures many other planetary campaigns were marked by. That didn't make the campaign easy; despite being outnumbered by a significant margin the Fourth Fusiliers fought a dogged and determined fight against the FWLM forces, selling themselves dearly before being defeated.[44]

Fall of the Star League[edit]

By the closing years of the Star League Era, New India had been incorporated into the Republic's Erdvynn Province and was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 2773-2775 Republic-Commonwealth war.[12]
