The New Port Royal system is the location of at least one inhabited world or construct and as at 3145 was located in the bandit kingdom known as the Tortuga Dominions.[1][2]

System Description[edit]

The New Port Royal system is located near the Fletcher's Feast and Morgan's Holdfast systems.[1][2]

System History[edit]

The New Port Royal system was one of five systems to be colonized between the early twenty-seventh century and the early twenty-eighth century. The capital world of the Tortuga Dominions, Tortuga Prime, was colonized by the remains of the 237th Light Cavalry Regiment in the closing stages of the Reunification War, the 237th being an Armed Forces of the Federated Suns regiment that took heavy damage in a wasteful military operation against Sterope, leading to the survivors deserting the Federated Suns. A generation after settling Tortuga Prime, the settlers embraced a new identity, the Pirates of Tortuga, and conducted pirate raids against the Federated Suns to seize equipment and machinery to expand their initial holdings; this worked well enough that within a century, the stable and self-sufficient colony on Tortuga was well-established enough to begin the colonization of other worlds, leading to the settlement of New Port Royal and four other worlds.[3]

Planetary History[edit]

The Dark Age[edit]

In 3129 three allied Periphery nations - the Calderon Protectorate, the Fiefdom of Randis, and the Filtvelt Coalition - launched a combined operation against the pirates of the Tortuga Dominions. This allied offensive was named Operation TRIDENT and the largest battle of the campaign was fought on the Copper Ridge Plateau on New Port Royal. The allied forces had struck at several other Dominion planets before landing on New Port Royal and as a result, the pirates on New Port Royal had time to organize themselves and prepare for the arrival of the allied units.[22]

The TRIDENT force that landed on the Copper Ridge Plateau consisted of a battalion from the Second Taurian Pride, a battalion from the Thumpers Assault Regiment, and the Brotherhood of Randis' First Battalion led by Grand Knight William Dirac himself. The pirates had assembled a strength of approximately eight battalions and launched their attack as the TRIDENT forces were landing, with the TRIDENT forces barely having time to deploy before making contact with the pirates. The pirates pressed the TRIDENT forces hard, with Grand Knight Dirac committing the last of his available reserves to the front line after three hours of constant combat - and the battle lasted another ten hours before the pirates were forced to retreat, having been reduced to less than a third of their original strength.[22]
