Nico von Strang was the founder of the one-planet Periphery nation known as the Barony of Strang.

The Star League Defense Force had occupied the Rim Worlds Republic between 2767–2772 during the first part of the Amaris Civil War, then left on their march toward Terra. With the government and military devastated, the Republic was shattered by the Lyran Commonwealth's "police action" in 2773–2775, in which they annexed nearly a hundred worlds.[2] What remained of the Rim Worlds Republic dissolved into chaos, with some morphing into pirate and bandit kingdoms while others saw the rise of warlords who were determined to hold their planets in the name of Stefan Amaris.[1]
The strongman known as Nico von Strang traveled to the remote Periphery planet named Erin and conquered it around 2780, renaming it Von Strang's World and installing himself as Baron and ruler.[1][3] Many Amaris loyalists arrived after fleeing the fighting of the Republic-Commonwealth War.[1]
The Barony was ruled by the descendants of Colonel Gunthar von Strang,[4] suggesting Nico may have been Gunthar's son. Gunthar's Eighteenth Amaris Chasseurs had committed countless war crimes during their occupation of Terra, so when the Clans discovered a world in his name during their invasion, everyone wanted revenge on his descendants.[5]
