Earlier Life[edit]
Smyth grew up with his parents and two siblings before he joined ComStar. In 3052, he was an ComGuards' Acolyte when he participated in the Battle of Tukayyid, where he fought against the Jade Falcons and Ghost Bears. His first 'Mech kill was a Jade Falcon Uller.
In the aftermath of Tukayyid and the ComStar Schism, he joint the Word of Blake and fought in Operation ODYSSEUS to reclaim Terra. After Operation ODYSSEUS, he transferred to TerraSec with the aim of drilling the paramilitary force. In 3078, he was the senior field commander of TerraSec British Isles and in command of a mixed Level III.
Smyth saw himself as a soldier first and not as a politician. This is why he refused any promotion and remained an Adept until 3078.[1]
Private Life[edit]
Smyth had a relationship with Demi-Precentor Alicia Richmond, his colleague and subordinate at TerraSec. On 11 September 3078, six days before her death, Smyth proposed to her and she became his fiancée.[1]

BattleMech[edit]
During the Battle of Tukayyid, Smyth piloted a Guillotine. In 3078, he piloted a Highlander.[1]
