Description[edit]
The Night Chanter is one of the products of Clan Coyote's Pueblo Initiative of the mid twenty-ninth century. Although the Coyotes fought to control their OmniMech technology for a decade, they could not retain exclusive control of it forever. After Clan Jade Falcon finally won a Trial of Possession for OmniMech technology, it rapidly spread to other Clans. In response, the Coyotes began the Pueblo Initiative to rapidly increase the number of OmniMechs in their touman.[1]
It took the Coyote Scientist Caste two years to modify existing Star League 'Mechs to accept OmniPods. One of these designs was the venerable Crab, which was modified into the Night Chanter.[1]
The Night Chanter debuted with the Coyotes defending against Kindraa Smythe-Jewel's Trial of Possession for OmniMech technology. The Smythe-Jewells captured several Night Chanters and quickly put the design into production. When the joint Coyote-Hell's Horses force attacked the Smythe-Jewel enclave on Foster in 2872, Night Chanters fought on both sides. The Night Chanter was often outmatched by faster medium OmniMechs such as the Coyotl and the Nova.[1]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
Five tons lighter than the Crab, the Night Chanter could equip OmniPods, but only in its center torso and between the pincers on its arms. This restricted the Night Chanter from being equipped with most Autocannons or with Gauss rifles. The final Night Chanter design is compromise between versatility and rapid production.[1]
In its Primary configuration the Night Chanter sports an all-laser armament consisting of a Large pulse laser, an ER large laser, a medium pulse laser, and two ER small lasers.[3]
Alternate Configurations[edit]
- Alternate Configuration A
- A long range sniper configuration, the Night Chanter A has an ER PPC and an LRM-10 launcher for long range combat and a single ER medium laser for medium range. For protection at close range, the Night Chanter A mounted a pair of Machine guns and mounted two A-Pods. The Night Chanter A had one each ton of LRM and machine gun ammunition, protected by CASE.
