Noritake Kansa was the commanding officer of the Ryuken-san during the War of 3039.[1]
History[edit]
During the first wave of the War of 3039, Tai-sa Kansa and the Ryuken-san were tasked with raiding Federated Suns and Lyran Commonwealth worlds in order to disrupt enemy troop deployments. The unit's first target was Procyon, where the Draconis Combine troops would remain for two weeks. Kansa, apparently wanting more of a fight than the planet's militia could provide, kept his soldiers stationed on Procyon until the Fifth Lyran Regulars arrived on 18 May to evict them. Kansa's force was superior to the Fifth Regulars in every way and the Commonwealth unit lost an entire battalion of BattleMechs in a single fight outside the town of Kreigen. The Ryuken-san only departed from Procyon when Tai-sa Ysabeau Johnson's Ryuken-ni arrived in-system to escort their sister unit to their next raid on Caph.[2]
Expecting to face off against the garrisoning Third Crucis Lancers, neither Ryuken officer was aware that Caph's defenses had been augmented by the Davion Assault Guards, Thirty-third Avalon Hussars, and the entirety of Wolf's Dragoons. The initial battle against the Third Lancers for their Aswan Military Reservation headquarters went well for the Ryuken regiments, until the Assault Guards and Wolf's Dragoons surrounded the Combine troops and instigated a major battle that would last for multiple days. Kansa's decision to lead two battalions of Ryuken-ni and Ryuken-sa soldiers into the radioactive wastelands of the Brunnel continent proved to be the battle's breaking point. Targeting the Thirty-third Hussars' staging base, the damage done to the FedSuns' facilities during Kansa's raid gave the rest of the Ryuken forces the breathing room necessary to disengage from the fighting. Although both Kansa and Johnson's units were hurt in the course of the Caph raid, they managed to leave the world without suffering crippling losses.[1]
After barely escaping Caph, the Ryuken task force arrived at Saffel expecting to fight another surprisingly strong defensive force. Instead, Saffel's two regiments of volunteer militiamen quickly folded without a notable struggle. When Kansa and Johnson reported their success to Tai-shu Michi Noketsuna, they were ordered to claim Saffel for the Combine, becoming the first victorious units in the imminent Operation OROCHI.[3]
