A Nova Commander is the rank given to the commanding officer of a Clan Nova. They have more command authority than a Star Commander.

Most Clans

A Nova is a combined arms force, usually consisting of a Star each of OmniMechs and Elementals. Other combinations are possible, including Clan Goliath Scorpion's Specialist units (Elementals and aerospace fighters) and the vehicle heavy Novas of Clan Hell's Horses.

The rank insignia for a Nova Commander in most Clans is the same as a Star Commander's insignia. To show that they have more command responsibility, the Nova Commander will use a modified daggerstar which has the smaller points enameled in the color of the supporting branch. A Nova Commander who is an Elemental will have the green elemental daggerstar, but the background tines will be red, for example.

Two Clans have an official Nova Commander rank. This provides warriors of the Coyotes and Hell's Horses with more chances to test up into a new position. These two Clans do not use the multicolored daggerstar common to other Clans; They instead use the dedicated rank insignia shown below.
