Obeedah
Obeedah was one of the Word of Blake's Hidden Five worlds.
System Description[edit]
Obeedah was thought to lie in Capellan Confederation space. Following the world's abandonment in 3137, ComStar's Safe Transit and Astrogation Project automated passtively-detecting satellite buoys continued to warn off any interlopers coming closer than one light minute,[1] threatening that the world was under quarantine.[2] Anti-small craft drones and light aerospace fighters are ill-equipped to repel an invasion, and are mostly intended to force DropShips to leave orbit or land without scanning the system in depth.[3] A powerful microwave burst from the STAP buoys was set to be sent towards the planet, presumably as an early warning signal.[4]

Planetary History[edit]
A "nice planet" with tropical islands, heavily populated, Obeedah was known in the leadup to the Jihad as a "factory world" to produce non-warship combat machines for the Word.[7] Apparently, a fleet base of some sort and a big space station were mentioned.[8][9] About a half-dozen orbitting satellites housed SwiftStar, BlackWasp, and/or VoidSeeker drones that attacked any vessels that approach within half a million kilometers of the world.[4]
By the thirty-first century, ruins from Star League-era colonization efforts dotted the landscape, and were mostly reclaimed by local flora and fauna. Several caches were used by the Word for testing, extraction, production, and storage operations.[10] Confined mostly to the warmer zones, native Obeedans (who increased in number to about five to ten times over the last official census) had centuries of rule under ComStar (especially factions that became the World of Blake) to become acclimated to their rule. They could have been called pro-Blakist, but had few views that would make them fanatically loyal. They were fervently anti-Clan in the years of Blakist rule, however.[6][11]
Scattered settlements returned to an agrarian or pastoral lifestyle,[6] though they continued to use advanced technology such as solar batteries fuel cell generators.[11] They retained knowledge of advanced technology, including water and water purification, and submerged or well-shielded reactors. Most were kept generally abreast of the status of the rest of the Inner Sphere, including the fall of the Republic and the rise of the ilClan. The natives were not privy to the destination of the Manei Domini, who left in a "generations coming" process.[6]
The native population tolerated the new bands of Neo-Blakist groups that arrived in the 3140s[6] finding their way to the world to be adopted by the Word's proto-AI Aegaeon as protectors.[1] Advanced electrical systems and short-wave radio transmissions were found in the areas controlled by Aegaeon into the 3150s.[11]
After Manei Domini Precentor Obeedah Mot left the world in 3037 to parts unknown, the Artificial Intelligence used Neo-Blakists as guardians and shock troops, in addition to the AI-controlled servants, the Automata. These robotic drones provided most of the forces on the world in the ilClan era.[1] Aegaeon kept up sermons from Precentor Mot and several other Blakist "martyrs" (in holographic form), keeping the natives and the Neo-Blakists placated.[6]

Notes[edit]
- On 29 November 2013, in a BattleTech forum post, Herbert A. Beas II revealed The Five as Odessa (Ruins of Gabriel), Herakleion (Jardine), Sharpe (Obeedah), Versailles (Taussen), and Tangerz (Mayadi). However, he also pointed out his role as BattleTech Line Developer was no longer effective, and that this, therefore, was not an official (canonical) ruling or verdict; new leadership might change the list in future published material.
- Ghosts of Obeedah revealed that Obeedah is located in the Aer, Finnalon, New Crete, Rhodos, Runrig, Sharpe or Tunlmar systems. Which of the systems is actually Obeedah was left up to the module's Game Master.
