Otto Kung was the commanding officer of the Third McCarron's Armored Cavalry as of 3050.[2]
History[edit]
Major Kung, commanding the First Battalion of the Third McCarron's Armored Cavalry Regiment, was stationed on Menke in 3025.[3][4] By 3050, now-Colonel Kung had been promoted to command of the Third MAC and was stationed on Overton.[2] Following the Clan Invasion, Kung and the Third MAC remained on Overton by 3054.[5] Sang-shao Kung continued to retain command of the Third MAC in 3063 in their posting to Kaifeng, despite his advanced age and numerous battlefield injuries. Kung was known for leading his soldiers with the reckless abandon of a man half his age and, in turn, his subordinates refused to serve under any other commander so long as Kung was alive and capable of fighting.[1]
In 3067, Kung was still commander of the Third MAC and was posted on Palos.[6] During the Capellan Confederation's counterattack against the Federated Suns' Capellan March in the early Jihad, Kung lead the Third MAC as part of Task Force LIGHT HORSE. After LIGHT HORSE's defeat of the Third Ceti Hussars and Vanguard Legion on Taygeta, Kung stated in a briefing his intent to continue the push into the Capellan March's heartland, with the capital of New Syrtis as his force's primary objective.[7] During the fighting for New Syrtis in September 3069, Kung's Third MAC dealt heavy losses to the defending Third Ceti Hussars and Fourth Donegal Guards but were ultimately defeated after a near-suicidal aerospace counterattack destroyed their DropShip in conjunction with the arrival of reinforcements from the Sixth Syrtis Fusiliers.[8]
Following the conclusion of the Jihad and the rise of the Republic of the Sphere, Kung continued to lead the Third MAC and was stationed on Menke in 3085.[9] Despite the Third MAC's recent losses to Stone's Revenants' armor and infantry support, Kung reacted to the Confederation's adoption of combined-arms tactics with disdain out of a belief that "school boys and go-karts" would only get in the way of BattleMech operations.[10]
