History[edit]

Patricia la Capitana Camacho was the eldest child of Colonel Carlos "Tiburón" Camacho and a MechWarrior in the mercenary unit known as the Seventeenth Recon Regiment or "Camacho's Caballeros". Patricia was a graduate of the New Avalon Military Academy and an officer in the regiment, renowned for her skill at piloting a Phoenix Hawk 'Mech, and was considered by her father to be the better choice to succeed him as commander of the Caballeros, rather than her brother Gavilán.[1]

In July 3047, Patricia was responsible for capturing an underweight juvenile criminal who had been conscripted into the Larsha planetary militia during a raid the Caballeros were conducting. That child had disabled a Wolverine-class 'Mech named "Skin Walker" and piloted by Bobby the Wolf Begay using just an overhead power cable, an axe and a broom handle, and Patricia felt that she would be of use to the Caballeros. That child, Cassiopeia Suthorn, went on to not only join the Caballeros, but become one of its most famous members.[2]

Patricia was killed in action on Jeronimo. Jeronimo was a mining world controlled by the Draconis Combine at the time, and the Caballeros were under contract to defend the planet alongside the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery when Clan Smoke Jaguar attacked. The defenders were swiftly forced to retreat, with the combined remnants of the Caballeros and DCMS falling back into the Contra-Pelagian Mountains in an attempt to withdraw from the world as the Jaguars pressed the attack. The chosen evacuation site was the caldera of a dormant volcano in a region rich in metal ores that interfered with the Jaguars' sensor systems. The Caballeros launched repeated, brutal ambushes to slow the Jaguars - who they referred to as tigres - with the last such ambush taking place close to the evacuation point.[3]

A Star of OmniMechs had ranged ahead of the Jaguar main strength, chasing down the retreating troops, only to be ambushed by Patricia in turn. Acting alone, she swiftly killed the pilot of the Puma leading the Star before turning the fight into a melee by attacking each of the other four OmniMechs, forcing them to engage her rather than continue their pursuit.[3][4] In addition to the Puma, Patsy also downed a Vulture, and damaged all of the other Clan 'Mechs.[4] Her father had tried to join the fight with the remnants of the Caballeros' First Battalion, but his forces were too slow to reach the battle, arriving after one of the Jaguars had crushed Patricia's cockpit, killing her. The wrathful Caballeros fell on the remaining OmniMechs and slaughtered them, with Carlos overheating his own BattleMaster as he repeatedly fired its PPC into the cockpit of the Mad Cat that had killed Patricia, and the Caballeros dragged away the remains of that 'Mech as a trophy.[3]

Patsy's death had a significant impact on the Caballeros, particularly her father. Carlos continued to command the Caballeros, but was frequently distracted and unable to focus during combat situations because of traumatic memories of Patsy's death.[3] Patsy also left along shadow over her brother Gavilán, who would spend years attempting to prove himself as capable and worthy of command as Patsy.[5] Patsy was also immortalised in song by Master Sergeant Richard "Zuma" Gallegos, the Caballeros' chief astech, who regularly sang for the regiment. His song would play a part in the battle between the Caballeros and the Ninth Ghost on Hachiman in November 3056.[6]
