Patrick Meldon was the commanding officer of the First Ceti Hussars during the War of 3039.[1]

History[edit]

Marshal Meldon's First Ceti Hussars and the mercenary Screaming Eagles were tasked with capturing the Draconis Combine world of Elidere IV during the first wave of the War of 3039. The invasion quickly went awry when the entire Screaming Eagles force jumped to the wrong coordinates, arriving in an uninhabited system intended to serve as a secondary rallying point for the Elidere assault force. Meldon, assuming the Eagles were lost or destroyed, continued with the invasion before a mechanical failure left his command DropShip powerless and adrift. The logistical mess created by this malfunction meant that the only First Hussars unit not involved with salvage efforts—Combat Command Charlie—had to take point for the ground attack, successfully capturing all four of Elidere's primary cities within hours. A day later, the rest of the First Ceti Hussars finally finished arriving on the planet and quickly wrapped up the job of neutralizing any Combine resistance. The missing Screaming Eagles arrived in-system two days after Meldon declared Elidere IV secured, although his disabled Fortress-class command DropShip missed colliding with any of the system's celestial bodies and was never seen again.[1]

On 11 July, Meldon received orders to take his First Ceti Hussars and attack the world of Misery, leaving Elidere IV to be garrisoned by the Screaming Eagles until later in the war. Unbeknownst to Meldon, the arrival of the Ninth and Tenth Ghost Regiments two weeks after the departure of the Hussars quickly lead to the defeat of the Screaming Eagles, undoing the Federated Suns' efforts in the system.[2] To make matters worse, Meldon's task force received orders to hold before being able to reach the undefended surface of Misery, spending the next three weeks sitting idly in orbit until additional rerouting orders arrived.[3]
