History[edit]

Born on one of the three Southwest Trinity worlds, Peter White Nose Pony was a member of the Seventeenth Recon Regiment, also known as Camacho's Caballeros. One of those members of the Seventeenth recruited from the Navajo population of the Southwestern Worlds, by 3056 White Nose Pony had reached the rank of Force Commander, and was the Commanding Officer of the Seventeenth's Third Battalion.[1]

In addition to being one of the higher-ranking officers within the regiment, Peter was also one of the regiment's senior religious or spiritual figures, serving as Singer. White Nose Pony's role as singer was analogous to that of Rabbi Bar-Kochba, a close friend who served as religious focus for the Jewish members of the regiment. As with Rabbi Bar-Kochba, Peter was also a well-respected figure, and his voice carried substantial weight within the leadership organization of the regiment, beyond that which his military rank alone would've indicated to an outsider.[1]

Within the council that formed a part of the regiment's leadership structure (the Seventeenth maintained two leadership councils, one pertaining strictly to military matters, the other to matters that affected the entire regiment) White Nose Pony and Bar-Kochba shared a common point of view that typically formed a steadier and more restrained bloc than that which revolved around Force Commander Gavilán Camacho, the son of Don Carlos Camacho and Commanding Officer of the Seventeenth's First Battalion.[1]

In October 3056, with the Seventeenth under threat from both the Internal Security Force and the Word of Blake as a result of machinations between the ISF and the Seventeenth's employer, Chandrasekhar Kurita, Peter was one of those to argue for gathering all of the regiment, including their dependents, and shoring up in the main Hachiman Taro Enterprises complex in Masamori, the capital city of Hachiman.[2]

Peter's role as Singer resulted in him being given the call sign "Singer" - the members of the Seventeenth being known for giving members of the regiment descriptive call signs, even if they weren't particularly original. While Singer was on good terms with many within the regiment, he considered Captain Bobby Begay, the Commanding Officer of Cochise company, to be an evil being. Singer was far from alone in this belief; many of the other Navajo members of the Seventeenth shared his opinion, as Bobby - known as the Bobby the Wolf - had named each of the 'Mechs he piloted "Skin-walker"; sometimes referred to as a Navajo wolf, a Skin-walker was a shape-shifter and a witch of the very worst kind of the Dine.[1]
