System Description[edit]

Strana Mechty is located near the Huntress and Ironhold systems. There are 327 stars within thirty light years of Strana Mechty.[4]

System History[edit]

The Norfolk Boneyard, also referred to as Exodus Fleet Station Five, is one of the locations where the Clans stored their mothballed spacecraft. It was located within the Strana Mechty system.[5]

In October 2823, Clan Wolverine saKhan Franklin Hallis raided Norfolk Boneyard and San Diego Boneyard to bolster the Clan's space forces before the start of Operation SWITCHBACK.

On 22 December 2824, the shuttle Shelby Foote carried a team including one Point Commander Darrow and technician Gaunt of Clan Ice Hellion to the Norfolk Boneyard on orders from the Grand Council to insert a virus to the navigation computers of all remaining jump-capable vessels there, to purge all copies of the Exodus Road of information on certain star systems including Barbados. The Aegis-class General Stuart was named as the third ship they visited, with "at least a dozen to go" (even after Clan Wolverine had broken several ships out of mothballs there).[5]

The Prinz Eugen was placed at the edge of Strana Mechty space for use as a prison ship,[3][6] until its Wars of Reaving-era subornation by Society members and destruction.[7][8]

Strana Mechty is a planet in the Kerensky Cluster. Its name is Russian for "Dream Country" (Страна Мечты) or also translated as "Land of Dreams,"[3] and given its name by Commanding General Aleksandr Kerensky's wife Katyusha Kerensky.[3] It is considered an almost sacred world to the Clans. It was the site where Nicholas Kerensky and his band of 800 others managed to escape, fleeing the chaos of the Pentagon Worlds, which the Exodus Fleet first settled. Nicholas Kerensky founded the rigid social structure of the Clans on Strana Mechty, and the world can be seen as the birthplace of the Clans. The world has an enclave for each Clan and the Hall of Khans, a place where the different Clans can meet to debate issues and appoint an ilKhan. The Hall of Khans is surrounded by individual Clan Halls. Strana Mechty also contains a Gene Center that contains the genetic material of every Clan's Bloodnamed warriors as a backup in case a Clan's Gene Center is destroyed.[2]

The McKenna's Pride was long kept in geosynchronous orbit as the resting place of Aleksandr Kerensky[3][12] and for use in Founding Day celebrations[13] until it was taken to the Inner Sphere by Clan Wolf members.[14]

Planet History[edit]

The planet was surveyed in 2792,[3][15][16] colonized in 2795, and was prospering by the outbreak of the Pentagon Civil War in 2801. It had become a thriving colony world capable of sustaining several adapted Terran species which would become Clan totems.[3]

On 8 June 2802, the Second Exodus began landing on Strana Mechty. Almost overnight, Strana Mechty's population went from 55,000[1] to about a million. Work began on Katyusha City, named for the late Katyusha Kerensky.[17] The city was shaped like a giant five-point star, which eventually became home to one of the five castes. A new military academy, officially the Katyusha City Military Academy but often called the DeChavilier Military Academy, was formed, and scientific and exploration work began anew.[18]

Cultural changes were not always well-received, such as the fostering system.[19] The immense pressures placed on the industrial infrastructure led to many difficulties and tragedies before reforms could eventually be fully enacted.[20] Incentives were offered to those who took part in arranged reproduction, and the birthrate climbed significantly.[21] The final break with the old ways came in late December 2814, when an assassin wounded Nicholas Kerensky and wounded and killed others during a parade through Katyusha. After that, supporting the Kerensky vision was the only socially acceptable option.[22]

On 20 March 2821, the Clans gathered on Strana Mechty for the final time before Operation KLONDIKE.[23]

Clan Invasion[edit]

On 23 April 3060, Strana Mechty was the site of the Great Refusal, a Trial wherein the Second Star League Defense Force defeated the Crusader Clans, putting an official end to the Clan Invasion.[24]

Geography[edit]

Map of Katyusha City

Strana Mechty has four continents[1]

  • Cameron - southern continent. Resource-poor and sparse population. Is often used for Trial locations.[3]
  • Kerensky Prime - temperate continent also often sees Trial usage.[3]
  • McKenna - equatorial and covered in tropical jungles and rainforests.[3]
  • Novy Terra - major population center.[3]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Novy Terra Continent
  • Cameron Continent
    • Mars Field Proving Ground: site of the Trial of Refusal Clan Wolf conducted to halt Operation REVIVAL in 3048[3][40]
  • Bearcat: a city built by Clan Wolverine[41]
  • Forest of Gunsburg[42]
  • Minsk Mountains[43]
  • Newark Swamp: a swampland north of Bearcat[41]
  • Roth Plains[44]
