Description[edit]
Introduced in 3058 the Prairie Schooner Land Train was created by the Johnston Industries of New Syrtis. The company created the two components of the Land Train, the tractor and its modules.[1]
The Modules are interconnectable trailers that are designed connect to one another and be pulled by the Tractor. The modules are powered by the tractor's Fusion Engine.[1]
Schooners were not intended for military service, however due to their lifting capacities they have been employed as a part of military supply trains, as was seen when the Word of Blake's 31st Division used them on New Avalon at the start of the Jihad.[4]
The vehicle became common among the worlds of the Federated Suns' Capellan March.[1]
During the Jihad the New Syrtis plant was heavily damaged. In response, Johnston Industries upgraded their plant on Benet III to produce the Prairie Schooner.[5]
Equipment and Capabilities[edit]
The Module (trailer) has been given 2.5 tons of light composite armor to allow for better protection against normal threats to the train. The vehicle is not armed with any weaponry, however customers have added weapons.[1]
The vehicle is set up with the Trailer and Off-road Chassis and Controls Modifications. The off-road suspension and big wheels adds to stability and provides an easy ride for the crew and cargo.[1]
Cargo[edit]
The vehicle standard module has a 22.5 ton capacity cargo bay which has two accessible door on the left and right sides.[1]
Variants[edit]
These trailers come in many different variations. These include liquid containers, passenger transport bays, refrigerated modules trailers and livestock transport.[1]
Customers on more hostile worlds have armed their modules with blisters of light weaponry to ward off hostile native threats. These modifications have included anti-infantry and light weaponry blisters/turrets such weapons as SMGs.[1]
