Planetary History[edit]

Star League[edit]

During the Star League, Preston had a mint in Moniesville that printed Free Worlds League and Lyran Commonwealth currencies. Because the world was contested by those two Great Houses, it was administered by the Terran Hegemony.[25][26][27]

Succession Wars Era[edit]

The Star League Mint in Moniesville was destroyed in the First Succession War, but not before several thousand tons of platinum was looted and put about the Louisville Belle.[25][26][28]

In the 3050s, the pirate band Kelley's Kavaliers raided as far as Preston.[29]

At least some elements of the Fifth Marik Militia were on Preston. While there Lavern Henden, then commander of the Fifth's Cestus battalion, performed well enough to earn a promotion to command the regiment by 3059.[30]

Jihad[edit]

In late May of 3068 the Skye/Bolan assault into the League, Operation Überschatten, captured Preston. Victory was short lived as the next month the First Knights of the Inner Sphere clashed with the Second Donegal Guards and Thirty-sixth Lyran Guards. Faulty MercNet reports later put the Langendorf Lancers on Preston instead of their true target of Gallatin.[31][32][33]

Fighting on Preston continued for some time, pulling in the First Skye Jaegers as well as the Ninety-seventh Marik Infantry Regiment.[34] Though the League declared victory 28 June[17], fighting continued until 31 December 3069 as a part of the peace terms agreed between Marshall Jeremy Brett of the FWLM and Duke Alder Umayr of Bolan—and as a result of battlefield attrition—the Lyran Alliance withdrew its remaining forces from Preston by the end of 3069.[18]
