The Qalzi system was the location of at least one habitable planet.[1] Colonized during the Star League era, as of 2750 it was located in what was then the Brinton Union region of the Taurian Concordat near Girondas and Katinka.

System History[edit]
Qalzi was originally colonized by the Taurian Concordat[1] during the Star League era.[2][3] It was abandoned by colonial rule at some point in the early thirtieth century, but remained a viable colony world and retained a self-governing local population.[4][1] By 3022 it was a recently-acquired part of the Aurigan Coalition, but this caused tensions with the Taurian Concordat who still felt the system was theirs to claim due to them having colonized it first (see Notes). The Aurigan Coalition was a political entity itself teetering on the brink of collapse at the time,[5] and Qalzi vanished from maps afterwards, indicating that it had either been abandoned, depopulated, or rendered too insignificant to merit further recording.

The world Qalzi was described as cold and rocky,[1] but also as "Terran-like".[4] By 3022 it had functioned without external government for over 50 years, and had been abandoned by Taurian colonial rule for over a century.[4] Still, the Concordat regarded it as a viable colony world; when the Aurigan Coalition sought to annex it and a number of other former Taurian systems, Qalzi was the acquisition that the Taurians opposed most.[4] This seems to suggest that the planet is particularly suitable for human habitation.

Notes[edit]
- In or shortly before 3022, High Lord Tamati Arano II of the Aurigan Coalition opened annexation negotiations with a number of systems close to Taurian space that had in fact been former Taurian colonies, but had been abandoned by colonial rule for over a century. The Taurians strongly opposed the annexation, feeling those worlds were still Taurian holdings in spirit and too close to their territory to surrender them to another power in any case. These escalating tensions led to a coup in the Aurigan Coalition in 3022 that precipitated the formation of the Aurigan Directorate and its toppling in turn by the Arano Restoration, effectively a civil war with at least some Taurian involvement that seems to have terminated the Aurigan Coalition as a viable periphery power. Qalzi in particular was regarded as a still-viable colony by the Concordat.
The other named systems besides Qalzi were Aea, Katinka, and Regis Roost, though the latter was later confirmed to be an error; the correct fourth system was not named but from the context may have been Artru.
