The Quicksilver Hover Scout was developed under contract from the Star League, entering production shortly before the League collapsed. Only a few thousand were produced but small numbers are still in service with front-line units of every Successor State and a small number of mercenary units.[1]

Description[edit]

The Quicksilver is shaped like a flattened, tapered teardrop; so much so that it's common to paint the nose in a different color. The vehicle is extremely fast yet remarkably stable and maneuverable.

Designed for a driver and two observers seated in a delta formation, a fourth person may be transported in back in emergency situations. A cramped cockpit that requires the driver and observes to be nearly horizontal throughout the mission produces a low silhouette.

Capable of flanking speeds of over 200 km/h, it carries two tons of light high-quality armor. Concerned solely with high-speed reconnaissance, it carries no weaponry.[1]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

The O/P 150 XLA T&T system is adequate to its task, chosen instead of more complex and expensive systems due to the lack of weaponry. The Sprechenmacher BXT communications system has a history of failing under battlefield conditions, to the point that drivers have been known to hide the vehicle so they can tinker with it.

At least a dozen Quicksilvers are known to have replaced the Sprechenmacher, though none have seen substantial improvement.[1]

Variants[edit]

  • ICE
The most common variant, the rare fusion plant is replaced with a much more common internal combustion engine. This reduces performance and reliability, performed when the fusion engine is beyond repair.[1]
  • Flamer
A field modification that usually sacrifices some armor.[1]
  • Machine Gun
Another field mod that sacrifices armor for a single weapon.[1]
  • Small Laser
    Yet another field mod.[1]
  • SRM-2
    You guessed it.[1]

Notable Pilots[edit]

  • Sergeant Margaret "Slick" Graize got her nickname from her ritual pouring of a pail of light machine oil over her machine after every successful sortie. In more than a decade with the Marik 33rd Armored Brigade, she's turned down two promotions to remain with her battered but serviceable machine, Speed Daemon.[1]
  • Lee "Sniper" Podart got his nicknaming by driving straight at enemy lines in his Long Shot, calling in target coordinates for Sniper artillery. On at least one occasion he cut things so fine that he got caught by friendly fire.[1]

Canonicity[edit]

Stardate magazine is no longer considered a canonical source, making the Quicksilver apocryphal.
