Richard Donovan was a colonel in the Eridani Light Horse's Eleventh Recon Battalion and the one which managed to keep alive a part of the Eridani Light Horse in the Dark Age Era.[1]

History[edit]

When most of the Eridani Light Horse regiments participated on Task Force Serpent to Huntress, Richard was the most senior ELH commander to not accompany them, having been left behind with plans outlining how to rebuild the ELH from scratch if they did not return. This was under the orders of ELH's leader, Lieutenant General Ariana Winston, and she had even left huge sums of money in banks of the Lyran Commonwealth, ComStar, and the Federated Suns. These precautions proved unnecessary during the expedition, though not during the Word of Blake Jihad, when the ELH really was annihilated.[4]

Richard's unit, the Eleventh Recon Battalion, of the 151st Light Horse Regiment was the only part of the ELH to survive the Jihad active. However, Donovan didn't manage to access the funds due to legal concerns: without proof than every regiment of the ELH had been destroyed—and with the Wars of Reaving cutting the Clan Homeworlds from the Inner Sphere that was impossible to do—he died before was able to win at the courts.

Legacy[edit]

He was succeeded by Major Dariah Sayler, who barely managed to keep the Eleventh active. After she stepped down from command, she was succeeded by Richard's daughter, Amelia Donovan, who was finally able to access the funds and resurrect the ELH.[5]
