Captain Robert Pein was a Armor Commander in the Nanking Militia during the period of the Federated Commonwealth.[1]

Pein commanded a company of Ontos heavy tanks, which assisted in the defense of Nanking against Free Worlds League raiders. The unit ambushed and destroyed the raiders BattleMech units, and then faced a nearly identical Marik company of Ontos. While this battle only lasted two minutes, only one Marik and two AFFC tanks survived the engagement, one of which was Pein's personal tank. The remaining raiders subsequently retreated from Nanking, convinced of the Federated Commonwealth's resolve to hold the planet.[1]

Pein was known to have commanded an Ontos heavy tank, nicknamed "Easy Ride".[1]
