Rubinsky's Light Horse was a mercenary unit with a long history of service against the Capellan Confederation.

History[edit]

Captain Gregor Rubinsky formed this command during the 3030s with soldiers from Tikonov, New Hessen, and Tigress. Their first contract was to provide security to the Earthwerks plant on Tikonov. Later the unit joined ranks with the Khorsakhov's Cossacks. The demi-brigade signed a contract with the St. Ives military and remained in its service for the next quarter-century. In 3040, they faced the Second Confederation Reserve Cavalry who killed thousands of civilians in their attempt to destroy the Ceres Metals Industries plant on Indicass.[1]

During the Capellan-St. Ives War, the regiment suffered heavy losses on Indicass during the Black May nerve gas attacks. After the war, they left the Compact as a separate command from the other Cossacks and signed on to serve the LAAF, who deployed them to the recently liberated planet Blackjack.[1]

After an intensive training cycle, the time came to prove the lessons learned when the Falcons' Third Swoop Cluster landed in 3069. The battle was fought hard, with each side successfully using head-hunters and other tactics. Only Falcon reinforcements turned the tide of the battle and forced the mercenaries to surrender Blackjack to the Jade Falcons before retiring to Lyran space.[1]

In 3079, Rubinsky's Light Horse still garrisoned the border planet Melissia, together with Fifteenth Lyran Regulars, and had less than half a regiment.[2]

During fighting on Graus in 3080, Uvin Buhallin, saKhan of Clan Jade Falcon, was killed fighting Rubinsky's Light Horse in a flanking attack.[3] Later that same year, Galaxy Commander Diane Anu drove the Horsemen off the planet in two weeks of fighting.[4][5]

In 3085 the Light Horse was stationed on Kowloon. At this time they were commanded by Colonel Cassandra Allard-Liao.[6]

By 3145 the Light Horse was no longer listed among important mercenary commands still active in known space.[7]
