Rudolph Chapman was a general officer in the Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth, and later the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns, and led the First Federated Suns Armored Cavalry.

History[edit]

Rudolph Chapman inherited command of the First Federated Suns Armored Cavalry in 3047, replacing Todd Revons, who had been promoted after the War of 3039. He led the Armored Cavalry in many successful deniable operations against the Capellan Confederation and consequently rose quickly through the ranks, being promoted to Leftenant General by 3050 and Hauptmann General by 3054. In 3057, he was appointed Director of Operations for the Capellan March's Edgeward Combat Theater and took charge of the region's overall defense. By 3062, he had obtained the rank of full general and had earned his unit a place at the very top of AFFC supply priority lists.[1]

Chapman was a highly decorated soldier, having received the Gold Sunburst and the Order of Steiner-Davion for his performance in battle, and was held in high regard by his peers. He was known to many as a master of maneuver warfare, being adept at feints, deception, and quick, cunning troop movements.[1]

FedCom Civil War[edit]

During the FedCom Civil War, Chapman supported Victor Steiner-Davion's forces. He and the Armored Cavalry were instrumental in ending the long, brutal Battle of Kathil, and decisively routed the Loyalist forces on that world outside the city of Radcliffe. His unit completely destroyed the Second Chisholm's Raiders during that particular conflict, though Chapman was not pleased at this outcome. Chapman was noted for being not so much pro-Victor as he was anti-Katherine, as he explained when he gave an interview to a Kathil Broadcast Authority reporter prior to the battle at Radcliffe.[2] Following the war, Chapman accepted another promotion, this time to Marshal and left command of the Armored Cavalry to his executive officer, Major General Tabitha Rennard.[3] As his name is not noted on any AFFS military rosters following 3067, it can be presumed that he either retired shortly thereafter or was killed during the Word of Blake Jihad.
