System Description[edit]
Runrig is located near the Overton and Harloc systems.
System History[edit]
Rhodos was a Star League-era inhabited system in the Capella Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.[2][3][4] In 2822 the system was renamed Runrig by ComStar.[5] The system remained a part of the Capella Commonality and subsequently vanished from maps during the Second Succession War.[6][7]

Planetary History[edit]
Runrig was a tropical paradise initially settled to export fresh water to it's sister world Rhodos. Eventually greater available of water purifiers made this industry non-viable, but the same technology helped remove microbial taints from Runrig's atmosphere, allowing it's population to exist in greater comfort. Unfortunately, scrubbing the atmosphere drove several local ecosystems to extinction. Despite developing industry and a strong tourism sector during the Star League, Runrig's inhabitants restricted immigration and deliberately redirected economic growth towards Rhodos due to fears that more human activity would either overtax their terraforming infrastructure or further disrupt the local biosphere.[5]
Unfortunately for the population of Runrig, these fears were realized when the planet was forced to accept a large influx of refugees fleeing the collapse of Rhodos. Though it survived longer than it's sister world, Runrig experienced rapid ecological decline during the Second Succession War.[5] Furious at the mismanagement of their Capellan-loyal planetary governemnt, the populace of Runrig revolted, destroying their original capital city and Hyperpulse Generator. A new isolationist government was installed, which moved the colony a continent away from its original location.[32]
By 3152, the local population is nearly a hundred million people. Runrig's technology has regressed to 19th century Terran norms, and only wealthy or powerful Runriggers receive an education. Historical records have largely been lost to time, but local legend continues to vilify offworlders, ensuring Runrig's population remains xenophobic.[32]

Planetary History[edit]
Cooler and drier than neighbouring Runrig, Rhodos would have been nearly ideal for human settlement if it weren't for it's thin ozone layer letting through harmful radiation. Though not hazardous to indigenous lifeforms, Star League colonists were forced to live in shielded domes or suffer serious health risks. Rhodos also relied on expensive soil and water purification technologies to keep its cities habitable. In the 2700s Rhodos began investing in a more permanent solution dubbed Operation SUNSCREEN. This plan called for the construction of continent-spanning networks of ozone generators supplied by the Terran Hegemony, and would have rendered 90% of Rhodos surface radiation free. Unfortunately, before SUNSCREEN had completed its work, the Amaris Civil War made it impossible for Rhodos to continue, even at a smaller scale. Setbacks and disasters forced the locals to fully abandon SUNSCREEN in the 2790s.[5]
During the Succession Wars, Rhodos' aging purification technology began to break down. Most of the population fled the increasingly polluted planet. By 2822 Rhodos was uninhabited, and the world was struck from ComStar's navigation charts.[5] Since then, the world has been visited only by the occasional band of Pirates or LosTech prospectors. Unhealthy levels of radiation have ensured none of these visitors have stayed long.[33]
Notes[edit]
Rhodos and Runrig are each one of several planets Ghosts of Obeedah listed as an option for being the location of Obeedah, one of the Word of Blake's Hidden Five. Which world truly plays host to Obeedah was left undetermined in the sourcebook. If Rhodos or Runrig are Obeedah, the information presented in this article about that world's history will be incomplete, and information about it's state in 3152 will be incorrect.
