Description[edit]
The S 2772 was a luxury double-decker aircraft manufactured by SphereBAC of New Avalon, aimed at the nobility, business tycoons and the nouveau riche. Introduced during the Age of War, the market for such aircraft was always somewhat limited, with only the wealthiest being able to afford them, but those wealthy patrons can and did purchase significant quantities of these aircraft - House Davion had a pair of such aircraft maintained on every major world in the Federated Suns for use by the Royal Household.[1]
The market for aircraft such as the S 2772 dwindled through a combination of advancing technology and limited practical use. Such luxury aircraft were often quickly outmoded in terms of both technology and shifting trends among the most wealthy segment of society, as well as being expensive to purchase and difficult to maintain. Many of these aircraft were only affordable to those who headed up successful businesses, and the nature of human colonization and expansion across the worlds of the Inner Sphere saw businesses naturally located near major activity hubs, such as spaceports, making the majority of planetary travel short-distances, where VTOLs were more cost-effective and flexible, without requiring infrastructure such as runways.[1]
For those who had the money and the inclination to indulge in purchasing an aircraft like the S 2772, the options available for fitting out the aircraft were almost limitless, with aircraft featuring five-star kitchen dining experiences, simulated hot-spring bathing cabins, carousels for children, and other such options.[1]
Equipment and Capabilities[edit]
The standard S 2772 has five first-class quarters, seats for 20 passengers, and a cargo bay accessed by a single loading door with a capacity of eight and a half tons. The S 2772 carries fifteen tons of fuel and is equipped with a single ton of armor, with protection biased towards the nose and wings.[1]
