Samadh is a short story by Jason Schmetzer that was published as introductory fiction for Starterbook: Wolf and Blake, together with its companion story Dulce Et Decorum Est.
Plot Summary[edit]
On 22 January 3070, Captain Stacy Church, commander of the reconstituted Black Widow Company, leads a small force on the Word of Blake–controlled world of Outreach. Their DropShip is disabled upon landing, forcing a rapid deployment under fire. As Church's lance attempts to regroup, they come under immediate attack by elements of the Broadsword Legion, a Blakist-aligned mercenary unit.
Facing superior numbers and heavy opposition, the Wolf's Dragoons engage in a running battle through the mountainous terrain known as Ridges. The team suffers casualties, including the death of MechWarrior Barstow and his 'Mech, but manages to hold their ground and inflict significant damage on the enemy. As they near exhaustion and defeat, several new 'Mechs arrive initially feared to be additional enemy forces but revealed to be Wolf's Dragoons Resistance reinforcements.
With renewed strength and unity, Church rallies her forces for a final counterattack, vowing to uphold the legacy of the Black Widows and reignite the feared reputation of Wolf's Dragoons.
